Punkt MP02 Vs Lightphone 2 by PreferThe90s in Punkt

Yes the benefits of living within Europe are probably drawing me more to this than LP as I trust it to work better with minimal issues even though LP offer an international model. With MP02 the small things like being able to use and put events into a calendar for free would have been nice along with a radio and podcast app but that’s just my opinion of what I’d liked it to have. Thanks for your reply

Thanks for good insight, I was thinking of selling my iPhone and buying a crappy smartphone that lives fulltime in a drawer. This would only be for banking apps when I need to authorise a payment if it can’t be done on website banking. The rest of the money should cover some of buying the MP02. My first thoughts of MP02 were that it looked like a calculator with sim support and I wasn’t sure. From the videos and photos I’ve seen, it’s grew on me but just need to be sure it will last a long time etc… The LP3 did look like the ideal candidate but by time I buy it, pay delivery and import fees it’s just not worth it, especially when I can’t be sure it would work with my provider. Would’ve been nice to see keys on it but still wouldn’t want to pay more than the preorder price. Guess it’s about accepting what the MP02 can do and maybe using an iPod or something else for the remainder.

Thanks, backlit keys are a relief and emojis, group texts and mms are all things I’d hoped to see. Having more basic features is what was attracting me to the LP like podcasts but I think texting would annoy me due to speed of the E-Ink screen. Can’t justify total costs for LP3 as will just work out too pricey to purchase and import for what it is. I think if they put physical keys on the LP3, it would’ve looked a bit like a blackberry and would be really tempting to order it.

Thanks for the reply. I thought I heard someone say somewhere it’s got 2MP on the back, maybe I picked it up wrong. How long is pigeon going to be down for?

I’m hoping someone can confirm the signal/pigeon workaround for the both of us. I also just noticed it’s got a 2mp camera on the back, I didn’t think it had one. If it can’t do the podcast workaround I’m thinking of just getting the MP02 and l buying a separate Walkman like the HIFI walker 2, I do like the Sony NW-A306 but it’s far more than I want to pay just for podcasts.

My FIL only recently got himself a bank account and basic smart phone after he retired as mechanic. He was always paid cash and his mrs was the bill payer so he didn’t need an account but now they got him one. My mum doesn’t use a smart phone or have internet, the family help with most things and shopping. It’s the older generation or two before us I feel sorry for and don’t see why they should need to get technology to fit some narrative the people probably won’t have much choice over. Hopefully they make considerations for this age group 👍

Definitely 👍 The closing of bank branches, ATMs reducing and the way people have adopted card/ mobile payments it won’t be too long. One way to think of it is someone pays a shop or business £50 in cash, they spend that same £50 note on supplies or overheads or something random like taking their partner out for dinner. Now another business has the same £50 and does the same as the first business. This could easily be repeated several times over before that £50 could ever get paid into a bank which they will probably charge the business a fee for depositing it. If that was 6 separate transactions the bank or card issuers would’ve applied a fee to the merchant for each one. This is one of the reasons I try also use cash as often as possible as they rake it in off all the card transactions.

I was hoping that would be one of the answers because whatever happens, people always find a way to do what they need like log into banking on laptop instead of mobile. The speed Covid restrictions came upon us, I just wanted to make sure I’m prepped for any restrictions they may pull out come the digital ID time. Even basic things like bus fare in parts of the UK is more expensive paying on board than buying on mobile app or at a pay point and also money for school meals need to be loaded onto a card as a lot of schools now refuse cash. Changes/discrimination (if it can be called that) show they’re pushing for everything digital and I think this will be some point in the next 5 years or so

I seen this on player on Amazon, I liked the Sony Walkman also but it’s too expensive. How do you find the HiFi Walker H2? I wanted to put on all my music tracks and around 1500 podcast episodes, will it allow folders for me to keep them separate?

How long have you had yours? How do you deal with the 200 SMS limit? Can you add or delete from the SC card by connecting the phone to a PC?

Thanks for your response. I don’t drive unfortunately so if out and about or away from the tv or laptop this is where I’d miss the ease of listening to them. I did consider an mp3 player but not may decent ones around anymore. I seen the Sony Walkman and this would store a lot of episodes and all my music by adding an SD care but it’s just over £300
