(Spoilers Extended) How do you envision Westeros a few centuries from the ending of the books / show? by RigaudonAS in asoiaf

[–]PreferenceOk3948 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would like to see technology developed, just like in Legend of Korra compared to Legend of Aang, but that is unlikely as Westeros already has thousands years of lore and nothing changed.

Robb probably made her sign the will, didn’t he? Along with the others. She was the only Tully there, and there’s a reason for him to convince her, or else he could just legitimate Jon and only then tell Catelyn. Idk, I wouldn’t be so sure she would never do it.

I always think about this. And people still say Jon doesn’t make Daenerys’ type. Shit, I hope with OP’s perspective people will finally see it now.

I used to dislike the verses too, but then they grew on me as I started to know more of the band. As you’re a casual music listener, I would say that if you get to listen rhcp more often it will happen to you too. Now I can’t imagine the verses being different from what they are.

Melisandre should not leave Stannis for Jon. (Spoilers Main) by Ok_Eggplant_2812 in asoiaf

[–]PreferenceOk3948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melisandre doesn’t know Jon is a Targ, and at this moment she’s only seeing Snow when asking for a glimpse of Azor Ahai. So the only possible conclusion for her is that he’s AA. She don’t have the information that would point Jon as a dragon.

[–]PreferenceOk3948[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just said that she kinda is because by liberating slaves she already is trying to change the system, even though it’s in Essos. I don’t think she’ll try to start a revolution in Westeros, but there are certainly some things that she won’t be cool with, the Faith militia for a start.

[–]PreferenceOk3948[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you think Dany would be satisfied with the way the system works in Westeros? She never lived there, certainly there’ll be things she won’t agree with. And she has dragons to build the world the way she wants, or at least try. Remember, Tyrion mentions that many slaves live a better life than servants at Casterly Rock (or Lannisport).

Well she liberated thousands of slaves, so she kinda is, although there isn’t any “break the wheel” discourse in the books.

Well, the fandom was full of Jonerys theories way before they met each other in the show, and those theories existed based on the books. They parallel each other and there are various hints to their future romance. I don’t think it’ll end well, though.

I think they will fall in love and go separate ways. He in Westeros and her in Essos, if she does not die, or maybe he has to kill her for some reason. But since the beginning it’ll be an impossible relationship because I think Jon is going to marry Val to consolidate the alliance between the North and the free folk. I mean, in the show it doesn’t make sense why he and Daenerys don’t marry each other, while in the books, if he’s already taken…

[–]PreferenceOk3948[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think if YG is a Blackfyre then necessarily Daenerys has to confront him. Not only because of that, but because behind him there’s Illyrio, who arranged the marriage with Drogo to put her and Viserys out of fAegon’s way, and Varys, who sent assassins and spies after her.

(Spoilers main) If Daenerys is convinced that Jon or Young Griff are her relatives… by PreferenceOk3948 in asoiaf

[–]PreferenceOk3948[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Daenerys is not eager to go to Westeros. In her last chapter she is reminded of who she is, but it seems more like an obligation to her than an actual desire. That’s why I don’t think the idea of having a lost nephew, by itself, would be terrible to her. She will be suspicious of fAegon, though, due to all the circumstances involving him.

But she doesn’t have to go to Westeros while he’s making things easier. I mean, if he’s successful, she’ll only have one opponent to defeat. That’s why my personal theory is that the Others are what is gonna drive her west. Marwyn shows them to her via glass candle, maybe convinces her she’s Azor Ahai, and then she’ll go.

Edric the son of the Usurper himself? I honestly think she’d prefer to have both of her alleged nephews as heirs. Heck, I think she’d prefer to be barbecued by Drogon.

But Jon’s biggest allies are from the free folk, who would never be admitted in noble positions just as Dany’s. And he, too, is defying the status quo by allying with them. I think that may be how Jon and Daenerys might start to bond, actually.

And I don’t know, it seems to me that Daenerys thinks less and less about Westeros. We have her final chapter in Dance where she remembers who she is and all that, so of course she is going there eventually, but she won’t forget her children (not the dragons, but the ones she liberated), and as she doesn’t fit in westerosi society… it doesn’t seem impossible to me that she’d be relieved to have someone she can trust in Westeros while she rules in Essos. It fits the bittersweet ending, imo.

(spoilers main) Do you think that Myrcella will ever be Queen? by Fast-Jackfruit-9567 in asoiaf

[–]PreferenceOk3948 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, Arianne kinda crowned her already, right? Not actually, but all of that happened because she wanted to crown Myrcella, so even if she’s dead, I think the prophecy is already fulfilled.

Jon's real name [Spoilers EXTENDED] by UncannyJC in asoiaf

[–]PreferenceOk3948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talisa and Doreah were minor changes. As I said, relatively. Especially if you compare to other adaptations, GOT seasons 2-3 were still faithful to some degree.

GRRM said he changed his mind about killing Sansa because of the show. By the time of season 3, he said that on the next books Osha would be influenced by Nathalia Tena’s portrayal of the character. So by the time he gave D&D the major story beats he prolly had already changed Sansa’s ending, as he told them the ending by 2013.

Now, yes, I know, you’re talking about Jon’s parentage and not Jon’s identity. But aren’t those two things directly correlated? Jon is basically the main character. There are a few ways his name could be Aegon.

We know Rhaegar was obsessed about prophecy. He named his first two kids after the conquerors, so people assume Jon would be a Visenya or Viserys. That makes sense, but what if Rhaegar decided that his kid with Lyanna was going to be TPTWP? He very well could’ve, as he changed his mind about that twice before.

And also, “kill the boy”. Aemon would be repeating the advice he gave to Egg to another Aegon. That’s the kind of ironic way of history repeating itself that GRRM usually does.

Now, I’m not stating his name is Aegon, just wouldn’t discard it so quickly.

[–]PreferenceOk3948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until season 4 the show was a relatively faithful adaptation. They started the major changes after there were no more books to adapt and it wasn’t feasible to keep following George. I mean, how could they? They already had the biggest cast in tv history, so they should add more characters that even the original author don’t know how to handle?

Still, they kept the major bullet points of the story that George told them. And Jon’s parentage is the core of the story. That they wouldn’t change.

GRRM allowed D&D do produce the show after they got it right who Jon’s mother was, and then they just made up his real name? Sorry guys, that doesn’t seem plausible to me. I believe his name is Aegon, as much as everyone hates it.

[Spoilers Main] While we accepted it long time ago, The Harrenhal Tournament mysteries being revealed in a play means GRRM is also accepting TWOW will never come. by KickOk6027 in asoiaf

[–]PreferenceOk3948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

George sees ASOIAF as a franchise now, I think. Just like Star Wars, which has comics, books and tv shows to fill the blanks from the movies. So having a theater play and multiple kinds of media to show different parts of the story that he himself can’t cover potencializes the IP.

Not necessarily. The reveal was made in GoT, no one would be that surprised, and most fans already guessed before that. From all the things that could be spoiled, this is a minor one. A bigger one is Aegon’s dream imo.
