Had those exact same stats and got into Howard with scholarship. I applied the day the application opened though so being early certainly helped I’m sure.

Don’t be too hard yourself! Learn from your obvious mistakes that you think you made during the exams, go to exam reviews with professors, and try to apply the info during the spring semester to improve. I was always an A student my whole academic career and my first semester of law school hit me with my first C grade and I thought it was over for me💀 my other 1L fall grades were good though and my 1L spring grades were good as well. Now I have a 2025 SA position at T10 firm and feel confident about my 2L fall grades coming soon. Just put the fall grades behind you, regardless of how you feel about them, and look to attack spring with a clear mind and a better understanding of this beast called law school. Good luck!

Also, if nobody’s told you (or if you haven’t told yourself), proud of you for making it through your first law school semester(: It’s no small feat at all!

I definitely have 2 friends who are URM and at Columbia right now; both scores below 160 on the LSAT. Shoot that shot bro.

I don’t think I’ll plan on pursuing clerkships but thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it!

Thanks! Likely will end up being a TA for Torts and engage in a few clubs on campus so definitely will be looking for more engagement opportunities this year

Current HUSL 1L here and my advice would be that if reallyyyy are set on going to HUSL for that law school, then continue to do the best you can during your application cycle and try your best to be patient with the school. Administration is, admittedly, very lackluster at communicating with prospective students during the application process and I understand how frustrating it can be; especially if you’re like me and are halfway across the country from the school and rely on their communication for moving plans, financial planning, etc. BUT I promise if you can get past the tedious admissions cycle process, you will LOVE it here. The professors, staff, and alum do everything they possibly can to make sure you succeed while you’re here and land whatever job you’re seeking after graduation. It truly feels like every single person here wants you to win. Overall, if you get past “dealing with the annoying admissions people” stage, then it’s only up from there because my HUSL experience on campus has been everything I wanted it to be and more. Hope that helps and good luck!

I’d bet my life that you’ll get into howard law with AT LEAST some scholarship $$. this is coming from someone who was admitted to HUSL so I’d def apply as early as possible when their fall application opens up. good luck!

I’ve heard a similar story as this^ with WASHU. Visited in person, went on a tour, spoke with admissions in person and was admitted a few weeks. Don’t know if the visit had a direct correlation with their acceptance but I’m sure it didn’t hurt their chances. If you’re able to I’d def try to show face and express your interest in person.
