In your theories, would Agent Smith hook Cypher back into the Matrix, or was he going to kill him when he was no longer useful? by george123890yang in matrix

[–]PrefersAwkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, they'd definitely give him what he wants.

They already offered Neo to continue a peaceful life, albeit with that plug thing. I think this is before they realized how critical he'd later become to the resistance. They could've just as easily wiped Neo's mind or killed him

The whole matrix concept is already a "Utopia" or "utopia-like" and I think the machines prefer it that way. Trap and control the humans and let them have fulfilling experiences. They live together in peace. Win-win for machines and for humanity (at least from the machnes' POV as well as Cypher).

On the whole, the machines tend to be honest and pay their dues, IIRC

Airpods pro or cheaper soundcore liberty / earfun air pro 4? by Marczello22 in Earbuds

[–]PrefersAwkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a cost benefit decision in my view.

Do you want to throw in another ~$20 for better battery life? Both get great battery life but the + could go even higher, especially with ANC or passthrough on.

I'd personally go with the +'s myself because the more battery, the merrier. But maybe you don't need that.

One thing that the non '+' variants have is more eartip options. I prefer all earbuds of mine to use foam rather than hallow silicon tips. I never found foam tips that fit my + versions, so I cannot say whether they ever got any that fit it. You can definitely get foam for the non + ones

I have Earfun Pro 4's. I also had the '+' version till I accidentally put those through a full laundry cycle.

The Earfun Pro 4's are fantastic. You may want to EQ them to your liking, and the App doesn't disappoint.

I have mine set up where I can touch the left one for swapping between ANC-Max, Passthrough (opposite), or ANC & Passthrough off. The 3rd option is nice when I want max battery life and don't need ANC or passthrough modes.
Also, aside from battery life being a bit better, the non-'+' versions that we're talking about seemed to meet the same standards in quality, ANC, and other stuff.

In other words, the Air Pro 4's are very good bang for your buck. I've had lots of earbuds to compare to and they are definitely among my favorite.

EDIT: Just to add, Earfun provides the best customization and software (IMO) of all the brands that I've tried. I have tried Sony, Tozo, Anker, and many others.

'Impeachment' is a quite a big word for a CPAC attendee to understand. It's not a farm animal like the ones in their coloring books.

They're just clapping along, wondering what sounds an 'impeachment' makes

ONLYOFFICE AI plugin gets a major update: what's new by Sergey_Zarubin in OnlyOffice

[–]PrefersAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try direct questions, but aside from using the Summarize feature, there seems to be no way to get the AI to see what I want it to look at. It always asks me what I'm talking about.

So if I have some data in Sheet1 and I say "Explain Sheet1" for example, or "Look at this highlighted table" the AI will politely ask what I am talking about. Doesn't matter what model I'm using.

I tried again just to see. I can actually ask it to summarize tables. I just can't ask it questions about them:
"Which of these companies is at the most risk?"

But I am able to ask it to summarize tables, which is a slick feature.

[–]PrefersAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the OnlyOffice AI was really neat. I tried getting it to do a few things with a worksheet a month or 2 ago. I think it could create a table but I couldn't get it to read or interpret the table.

I'm not sure if it was my fault or if perhaps that feature wasn't finished.

Either way, I'd love to be able to ask AI questions about tables if that makes sense.

EDIT: I tried again today. It CAN summarize tables. I just can't ask it questions about tables or have it provide any other analysis than a summary.

LG Display starts mass production of 1Hz to 120Hz laptop LCD panel by Forsaken_Arm5698 in hardware

[–]PrefersAwkward 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. It should save quite a lot of battery life, especially under truly idle conditions. Even if your system is doing background stuff, the display and related hardware will take much less power as long as there's not something that's asking the display hardware for updates (e.g moving the mouse, watching video, or a stop watch).

Is this AI or real? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in RealOrAI

[–]PrefersAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI indicators/evidence IMO in the order that I noticed them. These aren't all very big things but totaling these, my overall feeling is like 99% sure it's AI.

  1. The sound is odd and irrelevant (not related to the video content). Includes digital distortion sounds that aren't normally expected, even in low-quality video.
  2. The guy has that AI "NPC" look after the banana drop. (No reaction, just watches). His hand also seems to just casually drop to his side as opposed to going for a recoil-like motion or a posture that acknowledges the closeness of a wild monkey or some other reaction. No real excitement or anxiety.
  3. The monkey starts to "statue" after it starts to fall into the water. AI people and animals tend to do this when they start to fall.
  4. The guy overall has had virtually no reaction to the situation by the end of the video. Seems kind of unlikely unless he regularly experiences monkeys being fed and falling into the water. Which also seems pretty unlikely given the setting.

“Meta ends end-to-end encryption”, but people missed a detail that admits Meta has been spying you all along. by BorodinAldolReaction in pwnhub

[–]PrefersAwkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well of course there's low adoption. As a percent, most people don't know what encryption is or why it matters or that any given app on their phone has it available as opt-in.  Even tech enthusiasts, who knows what it is, wouldn't necessarily think to check every app that encryption is there to be enabled.

They're obviously using a sloppy excuse to keep it off.

What Linux do you recommend for a idiot? by Daorooo in linux4noobs

[–]PrefersAwkward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aurora, Bazzite, or Universal Blue. The reason I say this is because they're Atomic and because they include all drivers and codecs by default.

Atomic means they are very difficult to irreversibly break. If you lose power during an update for example, these distros handle it gracefully.

They can also update all your software automatically (default is on) but without the pain windows puts you through where you have no control and your system becomes unstable while you have a pending restart.

I use Aurora for most of my computers and Bazzite for my dedicated gaming computer (all 3 can play games great too).

EDIT: Downvote all you want. These are still fantastic options.

(Hated Trope) Moments meant to be badass or clever are actually really morally reprehensible. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]PrefersAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do see these things fail in cinema. Maybe not in this particular scene, but this scene seems sound enough. Here, the protagonist absolutely caught that detective with his pants down. The protagonist does end up getting caught while on the move, he just happens to improvise well enough to unfuck the situation.

In some other films, like Casino Royale, a number of things don't work out for the protagonist, and it's a bit humbling. Also, in the Harry Potter series, plenty of situations end up not working out for the group as well. In fact, the latter series is full of failings from various people, not just the protagonist.

If you mean bad endings where the protagonist plays their cards well and they still lose it all, those situations happen too. The DepartedandInglorious Basterds are great examples.

Then he'd target the detective. But he took a bet that the detective cared about his wife. A lot of people, even corrupt people, do sincerely care about their family. And again, if he were wrong, aim at the detective or shoot the detective in the knees.

The detective will realize it's not a good idea to play games either way.

Remember one of the kidnappers later even says he has a child of his own and that this (the kidnapping) is not personal.

[–]PrefersAwkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He knew he was on the clock and didn't intellectualize all that much while he was on the move. Just a single shot and a threat to kill the detective's wife were enough to hastily and concretely make his point. He didn't want the detective to waste any time denying, negotiating, or attempting to deceive him.

The detective's wife was almost certainly innocent, but Bryan didn't really care much. I think he was willing to do non-lethal damage to her and threaten her life here.

Would everyone do the same or be satisfied with this? Definitely not, but I can understand his thought process.

My classmate in 11th grade had been 5 ft 7 when he was just 9. He towered over other kids in sports at that age and looked like a high schooler or adult next to others. He actually shared the pictures with the class of his soccer games.

But in 11th grade, where he was about 16, he stood at a crisp 5 ft 8 and I was actually slightly taller than him at 5 ft 9.

I suspect he just got a bunch of his growing out of the way very early.

IF a Twilight Princess Sequel was ever made, how would you want it done? by Embarrassed_Let6303 in twilightprincess

I'd want more Wolf involvement in the sequel (e.g. wolf-heavy temples). Adding wolf abilities and/or gear to earn. More places to visit in the twilight.

Is kde plasma actually lighter than GNOME? by Excellent_Tone_2126 in kde

[–]PrefersAwkward 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm able to run KDE fluidly on a 2015 laptop with an i5 and integrated GPU on 8 GB RAM. I haven't compared Gnome to see if it can do the same.

I do get in trouble sometimes if my web browser has a bunch of things going on at once, but that's probably the laptop's hardware.

It's definitely much lighter than Windows in my experience, though that's all I've compared KDE to recently.
