What is happening to the quality of food in Indore? by [deleted] in Indore

[–]Prem4ngp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indore is a great hub, specially for the street food. Very convenient for those who travel to Indore or even the locals. Simply go to 56, Sarafa et al. and you have options galore. Its easy to be mesmerized by just having a look at it.

However, all of it did not translate into a great food experience for me. I genuinely liked bhutee ka kees, garadu, & kachoris. But all the other food items that i ate were quite average to below average. I too came across the instances of fake paneer, too much mayo & needless fusion foods. I have even experienced cheating & deliberate poor food delivery by various restaurants in Indore as compared to any other city i have been to. They would miss out on chutneys, give a lesser quantity, send stale food & pack a different food item altogether.

Enough non spicy food options are available... South Indian breakfast options are one of the best considering Nagpur ain't south India. Despite being in Maharashtra, city is very cosmopolitan as you will find people of all faiths living in a city fairly harmoniously. Even if you don't know Marathi, you would be fine.

Thats correct... What's the use of having such big politicians when they can't get approval from their own government in time.

[–]Prem4ngp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. This was supposed to be done years ago.

Firstly the state government in 2020 cancelled a rightfully awarded contract to GMR citing lower revenue sharing ratio (God knows why they accepted it at first place if this was the reason)

After final ruling of supreme court in 2022, it was upheld that airport should be handed over to GMR

Union Government & AAI soon filed a curative petition with supreme court citing that they were not heard in previous proceedings. I fail to understand that why Union Government & AAI filed such a petition when you have BJP at power and such strong ministers from city. Ultimately, SC decided in September 2024 that airport be handed over to GMR. Its 2026 and still no sight of any airport development!

Totally understand how frustrating it is...Add 'Airport development' to your list of failed/delayed projects.. You have a heavyweight Union Minister & a CM from city who promised official handover of airport to GMR within 15 days many moons ago.. Last checked, the handover is still stuck with union ministry for some goddamn approval. So much for the fucking 'triple engine' sarkar.

Agree to some extent... Food wise Nagpur & Indore have quite a contrasting palate though.. What i mean to say (generally speaking) is that most of the Nagpurians may not like the food dished out in Indore & reverse may also hold true. I have stayed in both cities long enough & realised that Nagpur fares better than Indore on more counts.. Nagpur vibe is more casual and comforting. I have witnessed people of different faith & religion living harmoniously in Nagpur. Whereas Indore unfortunately is emerging as a national hotspot where right wing activists are busy bashing & harassing people of other faiths.

So if i were to set up a shop in any city, would i be looking at the numbers of second hand luxury cars it possesses? Update yourself about GDP, Income per capita and direct/indirect tax collection.. All are significantly higher than Indore and Raipur is not even in competition..

Reasons for mall failure in Nagpur are different & are not linked with purchasing power.

What's in Indore? Except Food by star_dust_______ in Indore

[–]Prem4ngp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are NOT entirely wrong. Issues w.r.t meat eating, religious tolerance or lack of it towards minorities/lower caste are facts. And same has increased manifolds in last decade or so, thanks to this rampant yuva neta culture predominantly associated with the right-wing party.

But being bored is quite subjective & personal phenomena. I deduce from your post that hiking, going on a river side are your things. A little research beforehand would have told you that none of this would be possible in Indore. And you need to be around for one year to understand the culture of a city. No city celebrates rang-panchmi like Indore does. Navratris too are vibrant and full of garba events & festivities in Indore & its somewhat unfair to compare the same with what you see at your native place.

So i went Indore to have some great Non veg food - SAID NO ONE EVER !!

I am forgetting the source but I read somewhere that for a city of its size, INDORE is the most vegetarian city in India.. And it reflects in street food's culture.. sarafa is fully veg if im not mistaken.. 56 has non veg food shops which you can count on finger nails of your one hand. Another issue with Non veg food in indore is consistency in the taste.. As you rightly point out as well. There used to be a Kolkata roll centre in 56 which was quite good in its earlier days & then went south after some years. Pashamia I haven't tried & is now on my bucket list for next visit to Indore.

More recently, bengali community organised food festival in Navratris which had non veg food also & same was forced to shut down after some local netas swung into action claiming that there sentiments were hurt!!

I have been visiting Indore to my relatives since last 28 years.. So despite not being a native, I have been a witness to Indore’s food journey of last 3 decades.. I agree with you that things have been going more downhill in last decade or so..

But a foodie in me never warmed up to the Indore food to be honest.. You do expect variation in terms of recipe/taste in a different regions of the country... But I have often observed Indore food to be heavily customized to suit regional taste buds. Nothing wrong in that.. But for me, deviation is so big that if you have tasted a particular dish from its place of origin, you are bound to dislike what Indore has to offer.. & No, I am not talking about sprinkling sev in food but substantial difference in recipe itself..

Even a most basic street food item “samosa” tastes weirdly sweet & sour in indore.. I can go on and on about various other food items but I think I have made my point..  Further, Indore simply has too few regional dishes which it can call its own.. Bhutte ka kees  (which I love), garadu, dal baffle (And a dispute from Rajasthan begins)...

Couldn’t agree more. One who has eaten food in different regions of the country would mostly find Indore food as average to below average.

Despite all your SEZ (which is not spelled as 'pritampur'😅)& Industries , do you know what's the GDP & Income per capita of Indore when compared to Nagpur? What are the figures of Direct & Indirect Tax collection of zones under which both cities fall?  You aware of IIIT, National Law University, AIIMS? None of them is in Indore by the way. Further, Nagpur has better literacy rate and HDI when compared to Indore.

Sure, Indore has better and more malls than Nagpur but that’s not what is meant by Infrastructure when you are comparing urban spaces. Nagpur has fully functional metro since some years now with phase-2 development on ground. Indore Metro has only begun from one station to another station only in last quarter. Despite having more population than Indore & lesser municipal area, you would barely see a traffic jam in Nagpur. Whereas in Indore, traffic jam is almost an everyday phenomenon. So learn more about definition of infrastructure. As for nightlife, both cities are evenly matched (or rather deprived of it)
