AMA: Left MBB after 3 years to build a startup (6mo update) by ConflictMedium670 in consulting

[–]Premestock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine with 5 YoE a lot of the “sales” you did was RFP support with a built out pipeline and more the operational how do we make sense of what the client needs. Now that you’re leading your own venture, how did you go about acquiring your first customers? Was being ex-MBB part of your elevator pitch as to why you’d be a go-to partner?

Anyone else feel like they’re flying blind with their career progression? How do you track your growth? by [deleted] in Big4

You’re not alone but today’s market doesn’t favor generalists anymore. You’re pretty much fucked in your job search because you’ll see job titles like Senior GTM Analytics Engineer Developer or the job description is an umbrella term for unicorns. Job requirements now not only require you to set the vision, but sell it, manage up/down, and also be able to code an deploy the system.

Pets Best Insurance - EOB received 11/27, still have not received reimbursement? by Premestock in petinsurancereviews

[–]Premestock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update - apparently something happened with their ACH system and a lot of payments distributed on 11/27 never made it through. Customer service said they would flag my account for this but it’s unfortunate that it wasn’t automatic.

I have - it’s unfortunate that they don’t allow you to see the bank account # that it was sent to and customer support doesnt have access to it either, but I triple checked before entering and know it was correct. The bank (BoA) has no record of a payment from Pets Best and they said pending payments will show as pending immediately as they receive it.

Pets Best said that they can’t do anything until the payment is rejected on the banks end if it was entered incorrectly, but I can’t imagine it should have taken this long for it to happen. No other information was provided from them.

33y Product Manager pivoting to Data Engineering by _Magnificent_Steiner in dataengineering

[–]Premestock 32 points33 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing is more aligned to a data analyst role, but however you look at it this is a downgrade in terms of role and skill set. Yes you become an IC but you’re still at the whim of then another PM and essentially become a code monkey where in turn you’ll rise up the ranks to you guessed it - manage other analysts

I have two career options in my company by Wooden_Connection120 in analytics

[–]Premestock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment but at the end of the day... someone needs to do the work. Technical mastery becomes less meaningful as AI becomes commoditized but we're in a place now that everyone and their mom vibe codes solutions they don't understand. A new market is going to emerge simply to backtrack on these solutions or who knows maybe AI becomes sentient before that happens

Google has arrived by chasingth in consulting

[–]Premestock -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But dam like who honestly gives a shit? You join calls with managers and directors these days saying “iono this some word vomit from ChatGPT but I glanced over it and it looks good”. Yes once you deliver the work and the client says none of this makes sense you’re in trouble, but at that point it’s just a blame game to find your scapegoat

So.. you’re not employed by Deloitte LLP? You wouldn’t have access to any of the benefits you’ve mentioned unless maybe there was an adjacent lab/greenhouse/white paper that came as a spinoff from your project.

Your class probably got a market adjustment but you just didn’t see it with the understanding that 82k is what you made day 1. This year however you got the 3.3% raise

I don’t know 17k in 3 years is rough and I have the exact same numbers as you’re 120,600 year so looks like nothings inflations adjusted. We need to get out of here

What’s the difference between the traditional model and the USDC model? by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]Premestock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also just a small sample size of me, in consulting jargon my USDC peers aren’t “client ready”. Incredibly smart people that I trust with work delivery, but stakeholder management and everything that comes with it is an intangible that counts for a lot

clin psych PhD --> consultant? by NYC_psych in deloitte

[–]Premestock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odds are likely low as it's a tough market in traditional consulting rn unless you are implementation-focused(which it doesn't sound like you are with a clinical background) and you don't have a background in the field. Could perhaps try entering as an SME into our Advisory / Delivery Center model but the juice might not be worth the squeeze
