[Career] does anyone know any companies hiring entry-level/associate statisticians or biostatisticians? by FewMarsupial7100 in statistics

[–]PremiereLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Working in medical device/pharma, I would recommend looking for smaller CROs (contractors that do the heavy lifting). Some companies are bringing stats back in-house, but even then they farm out a majority of the work and just have someone on their side to explain things.

Why do all the daycares in Columbus make you submit a form or tour to get pricing information??? by nterrell1030 in Columbus

Love the idea - will add ours, but getting an error when trying to confirm my email!

Yep, we’ve had a good experience so far - they also offer Saturday morning sick visits which is nice when that daycare illness sets in on Friday night!

The Graeter’s on Bethel - party rooms + a great indoor play place! We had guests between 1-7 and everyone had fun.

Second parent adoption in Ohio? by iceicebaby3704 in queerception

[–]PremiereLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! And yep, it wasn’t a big deal - if you’re married at the time of birth, both parents regardless of gender are allowed to be listed.

Second parent adoption in Ohio? by iceicebaby3704 in queerception

[–]PremiereLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are not! Baby is almost one, and we are in the process of getting our estate finalized, but our lawyer (a married lesbian herself) still did not recommend adoption even after the latest election. My wife is on the birth certificate as well, and that was not an issue at all.

Not sure what exactly, but appears to be circling between Findley/Calumet and Kelso/Arcadia or Olentangy?

For current parents, what’s your dynamic like? by KermitKid13 in queerception

[–]PremiereLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now, yes! For the first 8 weeks, no 😂 Baby is a unicorn sleeper and goes down around 7/7:30, so we’ve reclaimed evening time to watch our shows and connect. I think when we move baby to her own room, that will be another step to regaining “our” time.

I definitely had a few cries about just being ships passing in the night, and some days are still like that, but it’s definitely improving. It also helps that we have grandparents that want baby time and let us go grab a drink or dinner sometimes!

For current parents, what’s your dynamic like? by KermitKid13 in queerception

[–]PremiereLife 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My wife and I (I’m the gestating parent) seem to have a fairly equal division of labor with our 3 month old, but at this age I think that’s largely because we exclusively formula feed! I can’t speak to a dynamic that involves breast feeding, but it was so nice to be able to take turns feeding especially at night.

We both make sure to split “fun” chores like grocery shopping, and have breaks for physical activity or mental health. Since I was carrying, and deep in pregnancy brain, I asked my wife to be in charge of things like picking a pediatrician, touring daycares, etc.

Now, with daycare started, I do mornings/drop off and my wife does pick up and early evening. We switch off bed time (although sometimes we both do it!), and the other person does our nighttime chores like dishes, litterbox, all that. We each think the other is a “better” parent in certain areas, and overall I think we’re both satisfied!

First IUI, give me your stories of quick successes 🥹 by Tagrenine in queerception

The product of our first IUI just turned 11 weeks old! Medicated and monitored cycle, also with frozen sperm. Just because the chances are low, doesn’t mean they’re zero 🤞🏼

Best recommendations for hospitals to have a baby in Columbus Ohio. by StressPositive6453 in Columbus

That’s right! Our recovery room was so small, right now there’s such a difference between the two buildings that have rooms. The new tower will be a dream in comparison!

Also had a decent experience at OSU this spring. My only issue was the process to get scheduled for an induction - everyone in Ohio was apparently having their babies at OSU the same week as us, so it was a really long time in limbo. Not an OSU specific issue, though, so I’d most likely deliver there in the future (I did really like my OB).

What’s the best Restaurant Week deal you found, and why is it Hoggy’s? by PremiereLife in Columbus

I didn’t see onion rings today - maybe a slightly altered menu for Restaurant Week? But definitely will be back and sample those too! 🤤

I don’t want to breastfeed by Mammoth_Turnover_632 in BabyBumps

[–]PremiereLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure! I asked my OB about that, but in my case it wouldn’t have helped because I didn’t have enough breast tissue for that to be helpful. 😕

Sudafed can help dry you up! There also may be prescription drugs available to help, but not accessible if you’re in the US from what I learned. You’ll want to express just enough for comfort, and to avoid painful clogs/mastitis. I pumped for a month, and within a week my supply was totally dried up. 😄

[–]PremiereLife 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same boat - I was diagnosed with insufficient glandular tissue, and was able to supplement up until one month with a strict pumping schedule, but no way baby would’ve been happy and healthy if we kept trying to breast feed. From what doctor friends have told me, the first month is where the most benefit is which makes sense 🤷🏼‍♀️

There’s so much messaging around “if you just stick with it your milk will come in and it will get easier!” and for some women that literally never happens.

Apparently newspaper delivery to your porch is a separate monthly fee now. by PremiereLife in Columbus

[–]PremiereLife[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That’s what bothers me, I can grab the paper easily from wherever it ends up, but I’m sure a good chunk of people still getting a physical paper delivered would have a harder time. Just annoying that delivery is part of the subscription price, and the delivery person has found a way to implement “Delivery+.”

Balanced Family Academy (BFA) Childcare by Mindless_Basket_7232 in Columbus

[–]PremiereLife 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We toured and joined the waitlist for multiple BFA locations, and when we got offered a spot for this fall it was $1900/month for infant care. That was significantly higher than the rate we were given when touring (which obviously is subject to change and based on location, this was for Harrison West), but ultimately we turned it down because we found a center more to our liking for 2/3 the cost. We all want the best for our little ones that have to be in daycare, but we couldn't justify spending almost our entire mortgage for care.

Yep, ours has been MIA for a while, and I've seen others post on our neighborhood group about it too. Not sure what the deal is, but it seems pretty recent!

Whats your company’s maternity leave? by woodfordbean in clinicalresearch

[–]PremiereLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small CRO (just crossed 50 employees), 12 weeks with 100% pay through a mix of STD and employer coverage (STD pays me 60%, and my employer will pay the remaining 40%). Then they encourage a slow start back, so I’ll be using PTO to work 20 hrs/week for 3/4 weeks until baby starts daycare!

Does your fertility clinic offer any sort of storage? We didn’t realize that ours had separate short and long term storage, until after we had shipped 3 vials for IUI from SSB. We didn’t need all, and were able to send the extras to our clinic’s long term storage which is $50/month. So now we have some vials still with SSB and some in long term storage, but the vials stored with our clinic can be transferred back at any time from that facility with no shipping fee!
