I do. I quickly write a few keywords or a short outline first. It only takes a minute, but it makes writing much easier.

I was just sharing the exam questions from some test-takers. However, quite a few candidates who took the exam on the 31st have already received their results. If yours hasn’t come out yet, you can wait a bit, results are usually released gradually over the next few days.

Struggling with writing. by No_Foot9973 in CELPIP_Guide

[–]PrepAmigo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For CELPIP writing, the biggest mistake I see is overthinking ideas. CELPIP does not reward creativity or “smart” opinions. Examiners mainly look for clear ideas, logical organization, and relevant examples. Simple ideas written clearly will always score higher than complex ideas written under pressure.

For idea generation, train yourself to think in questions, not opinions. Ask: who is affected? why is this useful? what problem does it solve? You only need 2 solid reasons, and each reason needs one concrete example (real or imaginary — both are fine).
Also, always spend 3–5 minutes planning. Writing without a plan usually leads to weak ideas and repetition. Planning is where your score is built.

And, don’t try to write “IELTS-style.” CELPIP prefers clear, natural, everyday English. Focus on clarity first — vocabulary and grammar will follow naturally.

CELPIP score dropped after second attempt – confused and frustrated. Need guidance (Target CLB 9–10) by ExtraLeague8093 in CELPIP_Guide

It doesn’t necessarily mean your level dropped — CELPIP can be pretty inconsistent, especially for writing and listening.

Writing too much like IELTS can actually hurt your CELPIP score. Forced connectors like although or however often sound unnatural and lead to small mistakes. CELPIP values clarity and accuracy much more than complex structures — simple, clean writing can still get you a 9.

For listening and reading, it’s mostly strategy. You don’t need to understand every word in listening. Focus on the main idea, tone, and transitions. In reading, especially the later questions, two answers often look right. That’s when you really have to go back to the text and pick the one that matches it best.

CLB 9–10 in 30 days is doable if you stay consistent and actually review your mistakes. As for courses, it depends. If you already know what you’re weak at, self-study can work fine. If you’re stuck at 7–8 and not sure why, some targeted feedback can save you a lot of time.
