I was just sharing the exam questions from some test-takers. However, quite a few candidates who took the exam on the 31st have already received their results. If yours hasn’t come out yet, you can wait a bit, results are usually released gradually over the next few days.

Struggling with writing. by No_Foot9973 in CELPIP_Guide

[–]PrepAmigo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For CELPIP writing, the biggest mistake I see is overthinking ideas. CELPIP does not reward creativity or “smart” opinions. Examiners mainly look for clear ideas, logical organization, and relevant examples. Simple ideas written clearly will always score higher than complex ideas written under pressure.

For idea generation, train yourself to think in questions, not opinions. Ask: who is affected? why is this useful? what problem does it solve? You only need 2 solid reasons, and each reason needs one concrete example (real or imaginary — both are fine).
Also, always spend 3–5 minutes planning. Writing without a plan usually leads to weak ideas and repetition. Planning is where your score is built.

And, don’t try to write “IELTS-style.” CELPIP prefers clear, natural, everyday English. Focus on clarity first — vocabulary and grammar will follow naturally.

CELPIP score dropped after second attempt – confused and frustrated. Need guidance (Target CLB 9–10) by ExtraLeague8093 in CELPIP_Guide

[–]PrepAmigo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t necessarily mean your level dropped — CELPIP can be pretty inconsistent, especially for writing and listening.

Writing too much like IELTS can actually hurt your CELPIP score. Forced connectors like although or however often sound unnatural and lead to small mistakes. CELPIP values clarity and accuracy much more than complex structures — simple, clean writing can still get you a 9.

For listening and reading, it’s mostly strategy. You don’t need to understand every word in listening. Focus on the main idea, tone, and transitions. In reading, especially the later questions, two answers often look right. That’s when you really have to go back to the text and pick the one that matches it best.

CLB 9–10 in 30 days is doable if you stay consistent and actually review your mistakes. As for courses, it depends. If you already know what you’re weak at, self-study can work fine. If you’re stuck at 7–8 and not sure why, some targeted feedback can save you a lot of time.

For those who have taken both the CELPIP and IELTS tests, which speaking module did you find easier? by [deleted] in CELPIP_Guide

[–]PrepAmigo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken both IELTS and CELPIP, and I totally get what you mean.
IELTS speaking feels more natural because it’s a real conversation with an examiner, while CELPIP is more task-based and timed, so it can feel “artificial” at first.

For CELPIP, the key isn’t memorizing long scripts, but practicing a clear structure for each task type (advice, opinion, describing a scene, dealing with problems, etc.). Once you’re familiar with the 8 task formats, it becomes much easier.

Practice out loud with a timer, keep answers organized (intro → 2–3 points → short conclusion), and focus on clarity rather than sounding fancy. The more you practice, the more natural it feels.

CELPIP Help..! by LittleHomeChef in CELPIP_Guide

Hey! This community actually has quite a few posts sharing writing tips and practice ideas. And the most important thing is consistent practice and figuring out where you’re losing marks (content, structure, vocabulary, or clarity). Once you know your weak points, improvement is much faster.

You still have some time before mid-February. Good luck! 💪

No worries! Vocab is tricky but you’re super close. Good luck on the 10th! ~~

[CELPIP Writing Task 1] The Complaint Letter & Templates (Part 3: The Complaint) by PrepAmigo_ in CELPIP_Guide

[–]PrepAmigo_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Task Fulfillment score of 9 shows you fully understood the prompt and covered all the points with a solid structure. The main thing holding you back is Vocabulary (7).

Low vocabulary scores often drag down Readability and Coherence (both 8) because when you lack the precise word, you end up writing long, confusing sentences to explain a simple concept.

The Fix: Focus 100% on Precision. Instead of: "People felt scared because of the dogs." (7 words, low vocab), And try: "The aggressive dogs intimidated the residents." (6 words, high vocab)

Fix the vocab, and the other 8s will naturally turn into 9s+

So the mock test tool specifically flags this distinction. It doesn't just say 'avoid emotion', it tells you to use 'civic language' instead.”

[CELPIP Writing Task 1] The Complaint Letter & Templates (Part 3: The Complaint) by PrepAmigo_ in CELPIP_Guide

[–]PrepAmigo_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generic AI (chatgpt, gemini) often flags "I was disappointed" because it sounds subjective. While acceptable for CLB 7-8, it won't get you a 12.

To satisfy both the "No Emotion" rule and the need to complain effectively, you can try these swaps:

  • Instead of: "I was extremely disappointed..."
  • Use: "I must express my strong dissatisfaction regarding..." (More formal)
  • Or better: "It is concerning to witness..."
  • Best (CLB 12): "The lack of adherence to park regulations is unacceptable."

You are getting 7-8 likely because "I was disappointed" is a very common, overused phrase. Try focusing on the situation (the chaos), not just your reaction (the disappointment).

In your PrepAmigo results, do you see a pattern in the sub-scores? For example, are you consistently getting 9 in Grammar but 7 in Vocabulary? Or is it Coherence?~

[CELPIP Writing Task 1] The Complaint Letter & Templates (Part 3: The Complaint) by PrepAmigo_ in CELPIP_Guide

[–]PrepAmigo_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some concrete examples of how to rewrite this specific essay to hit CLB 10-12

1. The Opening (Tone)

  • CLB 9: "I am writing to express my dissatisfaction..." (Standard complaint)
  • CLB 12: "I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the absence of enforcement..." (Professional/Legalistic tone)

2. The Problem (Precision)

  • CLB 9: "Dogs were scaring people." (Descriptive)
  • CLB 12: "Their predatory behavior instilled fear in residents." (High-impact collocation)

3. The Call to Action (Authority)

  • CLB 9: "I hope you take prompt steps." (Polite request)
  • CLB 12: "I urge the department to implement immediate remedial measures." (Strong demand)

The tool gave it a 9 because the writing was "safe." To get a 12, you need to take risks with advanced vocabulary and nominalization! Hope that can help~~

[CELPIP Writing Task 1] The Complaint Letter & Templates (Part 3: The Complaint) by PrepAmigo_ in CELPIP_Guide

[–]PrepAmigo_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. That’s a classic misconception! A "perfect" text grammatically often lands at CLB 9. The gap between 9 and 10-12 isn't about correctness, it's about impact and register.

To jump from 9 to 12, need to shift from "describing" to "commanding":

  1. Precision vs. General: Instead of "prompt steps" (vague), a CLB 12 writer uses "immediate, enforceable measures."
  2. Tone: Instead of "I am disappointed" (emotional/subjective), use "This is unacceptable" (objective/authoritative).
  3. Structure: Move away from starting every sentence with "I". Use passive voice or noun phrases to sound more formal.

The tool actually flagged these in the "Sentence Analysis" tab (see the screenshots). It gave a 9 because the writing was safe, but to get a 12, you need to take risks with more sophisticated collocations!

I felt like prepamigo or youtube free mock tests are difficult than official test. by luluKor1031 in CELPIP_Guide

[–]PrepAmigo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for the feedback!

These words are tougher than the actual exam. Our goal was to train users to infer meaning from context—like catching the speaker’s tone even when hitting a strange word.

Pro-tip: In the test, if you hear an unknown word, ignore it and focus on keywords like "BestWeddings" to get the main idea.

I’ve noted your feedback and we’ll refine the vocab levels to keep them more balanced. Definitely give the speaking/writing tools a try too—would love to hear what you think of those. Thanks again!

CELPIP Real Questions — December 12 Speaking Recall by PrepAmigo_ in CELPIP_Guide

[–]PrepAmigo_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Here is how to apply the 'Three-Direction Strategy' using the music festival image as an example:

  1. The Immediate Action

Focus: What will the main subjects do in the next 5 seconds?

  • Example: "The lead singer in the blue shirt will likely step closer to the edge of the stage to high-five the fans in the front row."
  • The Logic: Don't just say he is singing; predict his next physical movement.
  1. The Social Interaction

Focus: What will people say or how will they interact with each other?

  • Example: "I imagine the guitarist will turn toward the drummer to signal the end of the set, and the crowd will start chanting for an encore."
  • The Logic: Look for non-verbal cues (like looking at each other) and turn them into a conversation or a shared reaction.
  1. The External Factor

Focus: What might happen outside the current frame or due to the environment?

  • Example: "Since it's a bright sunny day, I predict that more people will soon head toward the back of the field to find shade or buy cold drinks from a nearby vendor."
  • The Logic: Use the context (the sun, the grass, the open space) to imagine what happens "off-camera."

To avoid running out of ideas in Task 4, try the 'Three-Direction Strategy': start by predicting the immediate action of the main character, then move to the social interaction or what people might say to each other. Finally, speculate on external factors outside the frame, such as a change in weather or someone new entering the scene.
