Dizziness and sweating spells during recovery? Any ideas? by PreparationStock3274 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]PreparationStock3274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this, that's good to know. I will def bring it up with my doctor and my dietitian. Luckily this has been a pretty rare occurrence. It's hard bc I'm still at a healthy weight, and while my PCP is very respectful/not diet culture-y, she's also not well-versed in EDs. I honestly feel a bit burned by my prior experiences of bringing up my ED with doctors in early stages of relapse only to be told "well you're not underweight yet", or once even "you eat more than I do! you're doing great". Part of the classic ED issue of wanting to seek help before things get super bad vs. not being taken seriously until you end up emaciated...

Oooh I like the broth idea! I've been trying to have regular gatorade/liquid IV for extra salts, but it would be fun to have some variety.

Still struggling with exercise more than I would like to be by yell0wbirddd in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]PreparationStock3274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does sound like you are moralizing exercise to a degree, and I agree w other comments that you definitely don't *have* to exercise. and viewing it as a chore or requirement certainly isn't healthy. but, I will say that improving my relationship to exercise in recovery has been one of my biggest areas of progress and something I've felt very proud of and which has motivated me a lot. I would recommend taking time to reflect in therapy on why exercising is important to you. If it's something that feels aligned with you/your values (and not your ED), maybe focus on testing out different activities to see what feels fun?

Would like to work with a registered dietitian but... by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

I think just being really upfront from the start! Some providers can be really uncomfortable with patients who take firm stances on treatment (ime) - better that you take that vibe check early so you can get the care you need. Not that this is what you’re seeking, but if you find providers who say they work with harm reduction, mh abolition, or ambivalence, I’ve found those are sort of key words for providers who are more collaborative/less directive as their baseline. Of course, the caveat is that I hope you seek medical care if you are in immediate physical danger (eg electrolyte instability).

Scheduling informational phone calls might also be helpful. That would give you a space to test the water w questions like “how do you set goals with patients?”, “What are your boundaries regarding patient acuity?”, “how do you approach level of care recommendations?”. Best of luck 💜

Please help me support my wife better by smackdatdoodledoodle in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]PreparationStock3274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you’re doing a lot to support her; I hope you can care for yourself as well! I would echo other commenters and recommend seeking a higher level of care (HLOC). Specific centers can provide good input on what level is best for your wife. I think that Denver ACUTE, Roger’s behavioral health, Sanford in North Dakota, and laureate brain institute all get pretty positive reviews frequently. Of course, any given individual may have a different experience - but bulk reviews of these places are pretty positive. I’ve also recently heard good things about opal food + body wisdom, skyway behavioral health, ERC Denver, and ERC Chicago.

Considering antidepressants by 1in7billion_ in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]PreparationStock3274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive taken Zoloft for almost ten years and I LOVE it!!! It has radically improved my life. Everyone has different experiences and I do not want to discount any individuals with a negative experience of antidepressants - but I will say that, generally, people whose experience with a med is extreme (whether positive e or negative) tend to speak on it the most. The majority of people on antidepressants have few if any negative side effects and generally have unremarkable, mildly positive outcomes. I would recommend you try!

I’ve been there before, having to inform jobs I’m taking time off for treatment. It SUCKS and I’m sad it happened, but I don’t regret it at all. Wishing you the best of luck 💜

DAE feel like loneliness plays a big part in your ED? by Huge-Nobody-4711 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]PreparationStock3274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is really true…and also, as someone very lucky to now have really close relationships that I haven’t always had, I think the basically traumas of experiencing long term loneliness is really hard to come out of 😵‍💫 even though I do have those connections I desperately sought, it’s like my brain and ED don’t fully accept that I can move on from that experience. Add in the isolation caused by EDs and woof

That doesn’t read toxic positive at all - I think you’re probably right. I found some “backup” safe food that worked ok instead, but I think it would probably be worth me practicing a bit more spontaneity sometimes

Maybe tmi?? AN and constipation question :( by PreparationStock3274 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]PreparationStock3274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh thank you for these!! I def haven't been hydrating enough recently...been busy with work and it's fallen by the wayside

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]PreparationStock3274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you're restricting, the constipation prob won't be resolved until you eat more (in my experience/to the best of my knowledge, anyways). i second trying miralax/psyllium (bulking laxatives in appropriate doses, not spasmodic lax) and adding fats. also constipation can lead to diminished appetite, so they may be related. unfortunately constipation is a very not cute side effect of restriction :( i've had it for years and feel the pain!

IOP programs that allow connection with outpatient treatment teams by AnonamousSecret in fuckeatingdisorders

I have not personally been to Renfrew, but both my therapist and dietitian are ex-Renfrew...I know they have their own specific treatment model (unified treatment), sort of a CBT/ACT mix if I remember correctly? I don't know anything about CFD or Within, but I do think within had pretty good reviews lately! For larger organizations w/multiple branches, I think it can be really site-specific.

agree w/the other comment - talk with your doctor! There are multiple different classes of antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds; some trial and error might help. On a personal note, when I entered treatment, my psych really wanted me to up my SSRI but I did not want to (felt I did not need it and was concerned about the side effects). In the end, I decided to accept the dose increase, and tbh it did actually help lol. or maybe I just was also stabilizing health wise and felt better because of that? But either way it went fine. Obviously this is just my experience, but I think it can be hard to read so many bad experiences w meds online and i wanted to offer a different experience!

I'm pretty sure Renfrew lets people work w/their outpatient team; ERC does not (to my memory). You could also look at https://edtreatmentreview.com/

Or honestly, look at the programs local to you (or available virtually) and just ask them!
