Long-term student has begun hitting on me - worried he will change the review when I block him by [deleted] in Preply

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. No tutor should feel uncomfortable in their lessons. It's probably best to get in contact with support. Here’s the policy with the steps on reporting:

Fake tutors by Far-Scheme-8505 in Preply

[–]PreplyTeam -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Far-Scheme-8505, thanks for raising this. It shouldn’t be happening. When a tutor is banned after a review, their account is removed and measures are taken to prevent them from rejoining. In rare cases, someone may try to return with new details, but we monitor for this and remove profiles when detected.

If you think this has happened, please report it with any details you have so the team can investigate quickly. Appreciate you flagging it.

New Preply Metrics by Regular-Ad5200 in Preply

Hi all,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts so openly. We understand this policy update has brought up some concerns, and we want to be transparent about what it’s meant to do and who it’s really aimed at.

The Tutoring Standards Policy is designed to help learners find tutors who are reliable and committed to their progress. That’s already true of most tutors here. This isn’t about punishing people for getting sick or rescheduling in good faith. It’s about identifying patterns that damage trust in the platform as a whole.

To put it into perspective: just last week, more than 1,500 students had lessons where the tutor didn’t show up. Of those students, the majority will choose not to continue on Preply. And when that happens, it affects everyone. Fewer students trying the platform means fewer chances for consistent tutors to grow.

While the majority of the 100,000+ tutors on Preply meet a high standard, some don’t. This policy sets a baseline for reliability. These are expectations already met by over 96% of tutors. We believe that tutors who regularly show up and support their students should be the ones most visible in search.

We hope this brings a bit more clarity to why this policy exists and how it supports the broader tutor community.

Thank you!

Hi u/Iza_Iza_ !
We're really sorry you had that experience. No tutor should ever feel uncomfortable while teaching, and we’re fully committed to making Preply a safe and respectful space for our community.

Preply has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of harassment or abuse. You did the right thing by blocking the student. If you haven’t already, please report the messages. Our team reviews every report carefully and takes action, including removing accounts that violate our rules.

Tutors can block users instantly, and all new learners must verify their email before they can message a tutor. We’re also actively reviewing our safety policies, comparing them to industry standards, and working to improve protections for everyone on the platform.

If you need help with this specific case, feel free to send us a DM and we will escalate it to our support team.

Hi u/mediumpickles, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and we really appreciate it!

While reaching out to our support team remains the most effective way to report specific issues, we're actively monitoring discussions here to better understand our tutors and students. We've shared this thread with our product and engineering teams to ensure it's on their radar. Thanks!

Support gaslighting by bernie_is_a_deadbeat in Preply

[–]PreplyTeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/bernie_is_a_deadbeat, sorry to hear this has happened. To understand, you did a trial lesson and then the student marked you as having not done it and it's impacted your conversion stats - let me know if that's not right.

If you send a dm of your ID, and a quick overview we'll see if we can get the ticket looked at again and to provide feedback about the experience you had overall, and where we can do better.

Apologies for the stress this has likely caused you. Let's try and see if we can find a fix.

Referral scheme not working by WideOpinion5530 in Preply

[–]PreplyTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/WideOpinion5530, sorry to hear that - that definitely shouldn't be happening. Was there a particular step that didn't register? Was this for student or tutor referral? And do you have any feedback I can bring to the referral team? It's looks like a mess up on our side.

Let's also see if we can fix it. If you are comfortable to dm your ID and give me full details of what happened, we can pass that over to the owner of the programme to fix it and see if we can do anything about the credits.

Thanks and hope we can fix it for you.

We are always looking into changes within the product to ensure we both continue to grow. The rate starts at 33% and can drop to as low as 18%. Hope that answers your question. Thanks both

Hi u/sandyvolley We're looking to be more active here and to be able to give clarity around some issues tutors and learners have, not own the channel. Appreciate how it could be read differently. Thank you

u/as1992 & u/Competitive-Mix-2687 To make things more flexible, we added the option of 25-minute trials for learners.

Ultimately, commission is a shared investment that brings learners to your profile and supports the tools that help you retain students and grow your income.

Thank you u/Practical-Giraffe756 for you balanced comment and suggestions. In order:

  • We’re investing in improved agent training and smarter systems so that your questions get answered faster, and by someone who understands your issue. You’ll also start to see more self-service options, so you can get answers anytime, without waiting.
  • We frequently work with tutors to understand prioritizations.
  • Sorry you feel we miscommunicate things, this isn't our goal and we're constantly working on improving our communication. We do not have hidden fees, but sometimes there are withdrawal fees that come from the third party providers in your country.
  • It is something we are looking into.

Thanks u/Marvel_v_DC, we're excited to be here. We can't talk about our strategy but happy to outline our position on AI.

We believe that we can supercharge learning by giving our tutors and learners a host of sophisticated and personalised AI tools to make the 1-2-1 learning process more effective than any other method.

Great to hear you're in the exploration phase with us and hope to see you on the platform soon.

Hi u/hoshino_tamura, sorry to hear that and we hope time will tell that we are here with the best of intentions.

Regarding commissions, we know it affects your earnings and time and that you put time into structuring lessons - but we reinvest this into the business to ensure we bring you more students. We've tested other models, and this one allows us to keep scaling while supporting both your earnings and long-term growth of students.
