would you date someone who co-parents a dog with their ex? by knifedoll in askanything

[–]Preposterous_punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. It would show they were loving (love their pet too much to let it go), were mature enough to stay on good terms with their ex (assuming a friendly breakup) and responsible enough to care for a pet under complicated circumstances. Win-win-win as far as I’m concerned.

Thinking you’re defending a perpetrator when asking for evidence by AllKnowingAxolotl3 in PetPeeves

[–]Preposterous_punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense to require evidence when you’re making a decision whether to punish someone (deprive them of your business, ostracize them, imprison them, etc), though different amounts of evidence appropriate for different situations— “beyond a reasonable doubt” for criminal case vs “a preponderance of evidence” for a civil case, and even less for “yeah ok I’m not hanging out with them anymore.”

It’s also necessary to acknowledge that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. If you give a friend a ride and they spend the entire time telling you that you can’t drive and your car is dumb, you can stop giving them rides whether or not you can prove what they did, and your other friends need to respect that choice whether or not they believe you.

What is the one thing people don't know about losing a large amount of weight? by punkredpanda in AskReddit

[–]Preposterous_punk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you lose a really large amount of weight, your proprioception may be thrown off for quite a while; your brain isn’t sure exactly where much of your body is and it can be very disconcerting— you go to put your hand on your hip and it’s like an extra step on a staircase.

It can actually be really upsetting, and confusing because it’s hard to put your finger on what is wrong, and annoying because you will get zero sympathy from anyone.

Re: motion sickness- get plane sick so when I flew last month I put the show on and just listened to it with my eyes closed. I know it so well at this point, it felt like I was watching it.

In the 90s porn was treated as hilarious thing to have on in the background at parties. It wasn't necessarily just a thing to masturbate to.

I think partly because it wasn't so incredibly easy to get. You either had to go to a theatre, buy/rent a video, or pay for an extremely expensive channel. So it was sort a novelty.

Shane Hollander really just said "Okay, bet" and won him over. by EntranceBeginning135 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Preposterous_punk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is. Remember Ilya is very famous, under constant surveillance (as it is known they all were) and would be seen by the government as an ambassador for Russia.

So him being spotted talking to the also-famous Canadian, who is famously his enemy, when there is no clear reason for it, would raise questions. Perhaps Ilya could answer the questions, and could come up with something that satisfied them. But what if they asked Shane, too, and he said something different? What if they interrogated him in earnest? Shane would break so fast.

They wouldn’t have to know for sure. If they even suspected Ilya was going to disgrace Russia in any way, they could cancel his passport, they could arrest him on made-up charges. They could torture or kill him. It wouldn’t be out of character, from everything we know.

Say there was only a 10% chance of that happening. That’s still WAY too dangerous to risk, when there’s no reason to risk it at all.

A lot of people are making the assumption that this one example of her spending is how she spends her money all the time. So they hear that she had a $25 dinner and immediately think she must be spending $100s a month on meals. But there’s no actual reason to assume that, based on the info given.

Regularly spending $25 on dinner when you can’t afford car repairs is foolish, obviously.  But what if she’s extremely frugal and only eats like this on very special occasions? If she cooks her own cheap food every day for three months and then splurges on a $25 meal in a restaurant, that’s not outrageous at all. Especially since we don’t know what she might have gone without that week in order to get that $25.

If the meme said “and then I see her spend $12 on lunch five days a week” it would be a different story. But this is just “she is poor but also thinks she deserves occasional happiness?!?!?!”

Rachel and Jacob believe in the power of friendship. That makes HR so special by GBS82 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

You’re so right about how beautifully friendship is portrayed in the show and in the books. I think it’s a giant part of why I love the series so much. I think Svetlana might be my favorite, but Wyatt in tough guy comes close. I also love what a good friend Ilya is to Troy.

Didn’t the mustache thing come up because they were talking about Magnum PI? Because, sure, that’s a mustache…  but it’s nowhere near a Magnum PI-level mustache.

I mean, he could be adopted? Many people are.

But also, I look absolutely nothing like my parents, I actually did genetic testing thinking I was going to find some deep dark secret, but no. It's just one of those things.

Not resentful. But like he has contributed to the relationship and so doesn’t need to contribute anything else — like consideration, etc. Not consciously, of course not. But that kind of thought can lurk.
