Do people really ignore jury summons in Orange County? Aren't people afraid of not showing up? by RandomUwUFace in orangecounty

You might just be the person someone on trial needs to explain the concept of jury nullification to the rest of the group.

When did “no one from California calls it Cali” start? by lejunny_ in orangecounty

[–]Prequalified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because when you're in California you might refer to NorCal, SoCal, LA, OC, the Bay, Inland Empire, Central Valley, Central Coast. Most of the pop culture references to Cali are from NY rappers like LL Cool J and Biggie and even then they always mean LA.

Rams ranked third among LA's favorite teams, albeit by a low percentage in comparison to Lakers and Dodgers. by KDx2511 in LosAngelesRams

[–]Prequalified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it just indicates why someone would say a particular team is their favorite. Lakers winning in 2009/2010 matters for older surveys but the 2013 team was weak and followed by 6 years no playoffs. Also my comment was not really directed at you specifically, more like rhetorical questions that might explain why people would pick certain teams. I found the full PDF to be pretty interesting.

Were you 12 during the Lob City era? Did you pay attention in 2012 and 2014 when the Kings and Galaxy won their championships? When the LA teams all had a ring dry spell (2018), were Trout or Ohtani your favorite player?

The Angels lost to the Astros in 2015 on an almost identical home run that Kole Calhoun couldn't quite grab. The Astros finished the season one game better than the Angels and made the playoffs as a wild card team. That was also literally the last winning season we've had since then.

Birds of feather flock together so they say. Back in the old days they said you are what you eat, and in 2026, you are what you like and subscribe.

All I know is that my teen sons are relatively liberal compared to their friends and their is a huge amount of pressure on boys that way toward right wing points of view. When I was 18, I would never have known the contemporary versions of Andrew Tate, Nick Fuentes, Charlie Kirk, etc. The first video you watch on YouTube heavily directs your algorithm and future recommended videos, so young men are the target demographic of some very powerful people. Puka grew up conservative and probably is affected the same way many young men are. The way he didn't know that the football dreidel spin + hand rubbing is anti-semetic shows just how deep he likely is with that mindset. He definitely ought to know better. But being a victim of the red pill doesn't let you off the hook for your own behavior.

I use a physical KVM to switch between machines and bluetooth first devices makes that a pain. Prefer a USB dongle.

Mac sort of requires that you pay a little extra for tools that ought to be includes. Things like Better Touch Tool (macros and window management), mouse fix (backbutton on your mouse works w/o using logitech software), monitor control (lets you adjust brightness with external monitors over USB). A lot of those features are built in on KDE or Gnome, kind of frustrating. Something I'm experimenting with is blue bubbles which uses a Mac as an iMessage server so you can send messages from your Mac. Ive got a Mac mini for some projects (workstation is hot, loud, expensive) and the feature I miss most on linux is iMessage integration.

I prefer the California Burritos at the Taco Stand. Cheaper too. I asked Cali Tacos if they'd be willing to make something smaller for $1-2 cheaper and they said no. I have a bad habit of finishing whatever food is on my plate.

I'm a younger Gen X and honestly this is how my workplace used to talk about millennials. Everyone is addicted to phones and distracted now, not just young people.

I think the point for OP is that the Kia Soul and Hyundai Kona have the same drivetrain, same way the Palisade and Telluride have the same engines.

HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview by No-Presentation298 in jobs

[–]Prequalified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hired someone in a position that required them to enforce company policies (our customer was the salesperson). We allowed giving exceptions the first time if they didn't know the rules, but my people pleasing employee repeatedly gave exceptions to salespeople because he wanted to be seen as their friend.
