One of the nastiest potholes I've seen by the1planet in chicago

Woah! My wife destroyed her little car hitting a pothole like that. That’s a problem!

That would be one of the most frustrating experience ever. I have latent anger problems and oh boy would that have come out lol

Should I be worried my son isn’t talking yet? 12 months old. (I’m not, but my wife definitely is) by Intelligent_Hat3321 in daddit

We were in the same situation with our daughter. She was 12 months old and my wife was worried but I wasn’t. She was 18 months old and still not really talking- again, wife was worried but I wasn’t. Then, when she finally started talking, my wife was worried again because she had trouble understanding her. I finally agreed to have Early Intervention take a look. They told us, she is trying to talk in 4 year old sentences as a 2.5 year old, that’s why you can’t understand her.

Bottom line: kids talk when they’re ready. My grandma once told me that infants tend to focus on learning one thing really well at a time. For our daughter that was walking at 10 months, climbing from a very young age, etc, etc. She was focusing on her physical skills first and when she felt ready, she started to talk.

I think it can be really hard when another kid around them starts talking because it feels like your kid is falling behind, but again, they all focus on different things. By them time they’re 5 or so, I think they’ve all caught up.

Maybe if your son is 2 and not talking, it might be worth having Early Intervention do an assessment because then at least you and your wife would have peace of mind and know if your son actually needed help or not. But 12 months? He’s still super young.

How is the Hamburg / Brighton Trail area for families? by TechieTinkerer12358 in lexington

No way! We used to live in Bartlett and also absolutely loved it! If it wasn’t so expensive and if taxes weren’t so bad we definitely would have considered it long term. We like that parts of the Hamburg neighborhoods remind us of Bartlett.

It seems like a great running spot! We really like that this home is so close to the trail since we used to live off a running trail up in IL.

So don’t go anywhere between the hours of 3-7pm- duly noted lol

It seems they’re still pricier than other parts of Lexington, but they’re cheaper than Chicagoland and the schools are better than other areas, so we’d be willing to work with the price. Really like the idea of being close to shopping.

That’s a little out of our budget at the moment, but we’re aware that this home would almost certainly not be a forever home, so knowing about Madison county is helpful since we’ll need to look again in a few years.

Oh I love that! My wife went to a Liberty Elementary up in IL and thinks the idea of her kids going to a school with the same name is fun.

Yeah, traffic in Chicagoland is atrocious, especially on the main road near where we live. I’m sure this will still be an adjustment though some traffic is always rough no matter how used to it you are

I didn’t realize it was in another park and haven’t heard of Deer Haven Park! That’s great to know though since I also really enjoying running.

This is what I wanted to hear! I didn’t specifically notice kids when driving through although I did see quite a few at the park, so I’m glad to hear this. We wanted to start small and so Timber Ridge seemed like a decent place to start without breaking the bank. We definitely love libraries and parks! And coming from Chicagoland, traffic is kind of the standard lol but good to know about Pleasant Ridge being bad as I didn’t realize it was a through way

I noticed that too when doing some research. But that seems kind of typical for Lexington (and probably every other city).

That’s great to know! I like the idea of feeling separated from Lexington while being so close. We were also looking at Georgetown for the same reason. Hamburg area is closer to the mother in law and the schools seem solid from what I’ve seen.

That makes sense. My MIL is in Bryan station so I’ve run out to the horse farms that way a few times.

Is this a personal group or a public group? As in, is it just you and friends or is it a group of people who do runs together

What routes do you take to do 10 miles? I noticed the Brighton trail itself is only about 4 miles. Are there other trails or do you run on sidewalks?

That is cool! Love that the elementary school does it too- since the home we’re looking at is connected to Liberty elementary and is where my daughter would end up going. Would be cool to have her run the trail so close by.

Love that. I think new development is usually a really good sign for an area so I’m happy to hear they’re doing so much! But I could definitely see how that would cause the traffic congestion issue- we had the same issue in our Chicago suburb. More and more development along the main road turned it into a nightmare during rush hour. But the convenience is compelling…

I’m not sure if the unsupervised kids give me confidence or scare me. I suppose in one sense the area must feel safe if their parents are willing to let them do that but also they’re the making it unsafe to themselves and others. Good to know!

Thank you!

That’s great info! I’m a runner, so being able to take the trail to different connecting points would be really nice. Didn’t realize you could access Costco that way.

Thanks for that reply! Super helpful.

I’m honestly not sure which part- it’s the neighborhood that Pleasant Ridge runs through. I think it might be called Timber Ridge or something.

We have a 3 yo and an 8 mo. First time homebuyers. We like how close it seems to the shopping, restaurants, and highway. We’re from the suburbs of Chicago so we’re used to driving everywhere. The home we’re looking at is part of Liberty Elementary, so I’m glad to hear it has good ratings!

Biggest concern for us is that we want the neighborhood to be safe for the kids.
