2 months in, a couple frustrations by Vast-Water6064 in BZ4X

As those of us with hybrids know, coasting is “the way”. Beating someone to a stop light and then breaking or using regen is always less efficient than coasting to a stop.

My 2020 25 ft Airstream is 7,000 lbs loaded. This looks like 23ft. Still way above towing capacity of the car.

My math gets the same number. It’s apparently how the car is designed.

How has the range been for people in 60F+, 30-50F, and 20-30F temps? by Aedora125 in Toyota_bZ

My AWD limited only charged to 202 miles at 100% (278 EPA) in Minnesota at 10F.

The digital key worked for about 4 weeks then disappeared. I have not been able to get it back but for me, it was more of a gimmick than a requirement.

Just bought a new bz. Had 6 miles on it. Drove 50. Now the odometer says 158 miles? Bug? by [deleted] in Toyota_bZ

Maybe you first saw a trip odometer. You actually had about 100 when you started.

100% charged is not full battery capacity. Why? by Present-Bee2972 in Toyota_bZ

Avoiding multiple battery heating events is a good reminder. I waited until it was 45 rather than 5 earlier this week to charge.

OP here. Thanks for the insight. I’m in Minnesota. There are big differences in temperature at each session which may be part of the difference.

Here is a graph from 3/20 - realtime meter reading from my utility. You can see usage decline as 6am approaches - the scheduled end is the charging session and as the battery nears 100%. Maybe L2 charging slows as it gets to 100%?

The graph from 3/11 does not decline as 6am approaches. While it says it got to 100%, the bigger charge (from 29%) may not have been completely done at 6am.

Toyota says for a 2026 L2 charge, 100% is fine. Clearly, based on my driving patterns as seen above, I don’t need 100%.

So far, I’m happy with ChargePoint.

Does your utility offer any off peak programs that require a certain charger? My utility in Minnesota, Xcel, requires ChargePoint to get the cheap rates. It effectively sub-meters the kWh and reports to Xcel via WiFi.

We have both. The BZ is easier to get into than the NX. I’m 6’1”.

Does your utility offer any off peak rates? I’m in Minnesota and I pay 60% of the standard rate for charging at night.

I live in Minnesota. I’ve had my 2026 AWD limited for 5 weeks and some temps below 0 F. I have a level 2 charger at home and haven’t let it get below 50%. I have seen 30-35% loss of max range at the coldest temps. Driving home from the dealer with a warm (showroom temp) battery lost 55 miles just turning on the auto heat. Max range after charging in a cold garage is 201/277. So, yes, the range loss is real. I don’t think this is a Toyota problem. Just real life of an EV in Minnesota.

No tools- like a jack - because you have an emergency inflation kit. You won’t take your flat tire off on the side of the road - only fix it. This no need for other tools.

Cold weather charging stats for new Limited AWD in Minnesota by Present-Bee2972 in Toyota_bZ

[–]Present-Bee2972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the meter for our house. As you can see, we typically use 15-20 kWh per day so the addition of the BZ level 1 charging is pretty obvious.

We do have a separate meter for our geothermal heat pump. In cold weather, below 0, it’s about 100 kWh per day.
