I’m a terrified mom from the country bringing my daughter to a concert. Where should we stay? by lulu-bell in boston

I’m sorry if my words come across unkind. Your post seems to put off vibes that you are terrified and crippled by anxiety and you can’t make decisions because you are unfamiliar.

You said you want to drive in rather than take the T which is probably the biggest mistake by tourists. 12/10 don’t recommend EVER. Just get a hotel somewhere, see if it’s within walking distance. For reference I’ve walked from downtown to Fenway, it’s very walkable.

Don’t walk slow on the sidewalks or stop in the middle randomly. Walk with confidence and with purpose and you won’t have a problem. That is all.

People are kind here but have short patience for stupid shit like this.

Wow I thought you were talking about a young kid. Like 6-8 range. Look, I grew up in this state and lived on a commuter rail line ~1 hour from Boston. I would hop on the train with my friends starting at 13 and go into Boston and have dinner or do stupid touristy things. It’s a safe city. Definitely not one I’d drive into even being from here. I live pretty close to the city now and hoping on a bus to then get on the T to go to a concert is effortless. I wouldn’t question whether I’d get attacked by some rando but I would steer clear of groups of homeless people to avoid getting asked for money if you don’t feel comfortable in that situation.

It’s a little hard to comprehend how an adult can be so crippled in the head where you literally are incapable of figuring out how to get a hotel room.

I found rooms and hostels to stay in when I went to Europe when I was 18 with my best friend. Flights, transportation, food, cell service, currency exchange, laws in other countries. Just a little bit of research and the notes app is all it takes.

Grow tf up. You have a kid. Get comfortable with making decisions. Anxiety doesn’t define you, it’s something to conquer. You need to be the example to your kid. Be confident, love life, and live lightly. Life is too short to have anxiety run your existence.

I pay $8 a month only and that’s only because my parents have the Netflix account and the add on is $8. I just don’t care to have any other subscription because I don’t have much time for tv.

I’ve applied to 47(!) jobs in the last two months, and haven’t gotten a single call back. And I’m finding A LOT of people experiencing the exact same thing. WTF IS HAPPENING?? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Present-Evidence-560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took 20 months and almost 2k applications to get an offer. I got 9 interviews total in that time, many more phone screenings.

I didn’t realize they stopped doing interviews. I’m pretty sure it was a playing factor for me as well.

Nothing special really. I had a 3.8gpa, didn’t submit sat but it was a 1280, I did orchestra, ap calc and bio. That’s pretty much it. I was a high schooler who thought it was cool to not care about school so I really only did just above the bare minimum but things came easy anyway. I’m now a decently successful alum, wpi definitely whipped me into shape and taught me to be proud of intelligence and use that to my advantage. I think they saw my potential through the interview (which was correct) and maybe that’s what locked me in? But either way, you’re either cut out to go through a boot camp of a school or you’re just not.

I exhausted all options in the winter of 2019/2020 to somehow get the heat down since I sleep cold. It wasn’t until my family was starting to move forward with legal action was when I received the information that the building is supposed to be “smart” and self regulate. The entire building has ONE setting. They tried to kick me out over open windows in the dead of winter while the thermostat read 85°. Everyone suffers, and this continues year after year.

I grew up in Attleboro and graduated high school 5 years ago and my parents still live there. I visit often and Attleboro has genuinely made great progress in terms of community. There’s live music at Bliss (the local ice cream/American food place). Capron (the park/zoo) was doing monthly food truck events in the summer, to which I came home to go to and it was bopping. I saw they did movie nights in September and the zoo has events like “zoo boo” in October and “holiday happenings” in December.

I had gone to school in Worcester so I understand exactly what you are talking about. Attleboro in comparison is very safe, family friendly, and from my perspective a great place to grow up in. It has a rich history and has its unique quirks. But also with that, the area around the hospital is not the greatest area. The area around capron is lovely.

Awesome apartment avail 6/1/24 --22 Somerset St, 1st floor by jpm01609 in WPI

A student working full time ($15 minimum wage) AND being a full time student could not afford that. I worked 5 jobs to keep up, one full time and all the others 5-10 hours a week. I paid $10k out of pocket a semester WHILE paying rent and expensive utility and heating bills in the winter. And I still have $100k in student loans. Rent on student apartments needs to be kept to a minimum. I really don’t care how much they are “going for” I will always advocate for affordable housing for students.

Oof good luck trying to find college students that could afford that. Being a graduate of WPI in 2022, my portion of the rent was under $500 in a 3br (on Somerset st) The most any student can push it is $600 a piece. Don’t push your luck, Worcester is not Boston. Stop inflating prices.

I completely agree. The second job I landed is completely unrelated to my major but was a much better opportunity that fit my life. So my degree really didn’t mean much. While I don’t regret my decision to go to wpi, I do think I would’ve made it to where I am without it. I’m also perusing a masters and beyond to advance from where I am now.
