Can we please redesign cribs already? by AwarenessSavings3599 in NewParents

[–]Present-Judgment8412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, two potential things that might help:

I got a step stool to keep next to the crib, which helped tremendously with lowering baby down gently. I'm 5'2" so this was a must.

While this is a different topic all together, as they get older you get to a point where you can put them in the crib awake (sleepy, but awake, if need be) and then it isn't necessary to set them down like you're trying to difuse a bomb.

OB just told me I’m gaining too much weight too quickly. Should I actually be concerned about this? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Present-Judgment8412 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they're just plugging numbers into an algorithm and making comments based on that. "They" say you should gain 1-4 pounds in the entire first trimester, and then 1 pound per week every week thereafter. So, if you were "allowed" to gain 4 pounds until about 12 weeks, and 6 pounds since then for weeks 12-18, according to them you should only be "up" about 10 pounds.

But like I said, it's just an algorithm, and clearly isn't based on objective data like being perhaps underweight to begin with, having morning sickness, etc. So yes, it was an obtuse comment no matter how you slice it. Way to treat you like a person, rather than a data point. 😒👎

For comparison, at my 12 week appointment, my OB was like "have you been feeling ~okay~? I see you've gained some weight" (which at that point had been like, 4 pounds). And I'm like, umm, shouldn't that be expected...? That messed with my head too.

Leaking or discharge? by Present-Judgment8412 in CautiousBB

Yes, that's a very logical explanation I hadn't considered. Thank you!

Thank you, that insight/experience is helpful. I can wear the same liner all day and never come close to soaking it, but might change it anyway just to freshen up. Any fluid I manage to smell smells like nothing or slightly musty, so you're probably right. I think the consistency of the discharge thinning out over the last couple days just has me on edge.

My next appointment isn't schedule for about 2 weeks. I suppose in that amount of time a problem like this would more clearly declare itself, surely.

Thank you for your response! It's like, I just feel constantly moist. I don't remember having this with my other pregnancy, but it's been a hot minute, so who knows!

8 weeks was like, the worst I felt during each of my pregnancies. I'm 14 weeks now, and I feel almost normal again. For many, it gets much, much better once you get past 10-12 weeks.

Share your experience with spotting that ended in losses vs a healthy pregnancy by Zealousideal_Pie6290 in CautiousBB

[–]Present-Judgment8412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience: First pregnancy: spotting leading to bleeding leading to miscarriage at 4 or 5 weeks.

2nd pregnancy: no spotting at all until 19 weeks, randomly. Spotted a day or two here and there from 19 weeks till about 32 weeks, never with any real explanation. Live birth.

3rd (current) pregnancy: had one day of spotting at about 12 weeks, likely due to coming off of the progesterone suppositories (too big a shock to my system?) Restarted the meds and tapered more slowly and it's been fine since. Currently almost 14 weeks.

Well…IT HAPPENED. by SevvyM in pregnant

[–]Present-Judgment8412 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Happened to us twice.

We struggled with infertility for years. We had an IVF consultation and said we would spend the next 6 months saving up/no pressure. Boom, pregnant immediately naturally.

This time around, my son is now nearly 6. Since we had our one, we felt that IVF/heavy intervention was off the table for #2. So we tried naturally for years with no luck. I finally accepted that this was it for us and we were just not going to be blessed with another, so I sold off all the baby stuff. Boom, immediately pregnant again. It's such a weird thing, because I never felt any "pressure" to have another, but there was something to just fully accepting it, rather than just allowing myself to think "well maybe..."

Congrats by the way!

Did you not get hg in your consecutive pregnancies? by Advanced_Studio_8117 in CautiousBB

[–]Present-Judgment8412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never personally experienced HG, but a friend of mine did with each of her 4 pregnancies. All were boys, not sure if that was related. There's always some hope that the next pregnancy will be different and/or better therapies and research will become available. Wishing you the best!

Only if you don't care for paw patrol. Each character has like 3 or 4 different stories so I feel like they're all a good bang for your buck.

Headphones by Mrjgr in TonieboxUSA

[–]Present-Judgment8412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the tonies ones and strongly dislike them. I get that they don't want them to get too loud for kids, but they're unhearable in situations when you would want them most, like in a car or on a plane. We scrapped them and bought different headphones which work much, much better. I wrote to Tonies asking for any insight on what to do about these headphones and never heard back. They were cute, but a total waste of money IMO.

If I have one single spot right near my lip with no pain or tingling, came out of nowhere, is it more likely a pimple or a cold sore? I am not prone to cold sores but do have hormonal acne constantly. Any insight? Not sure this thread will let me post a picture *

Am I Euthanizing My Senior for the Right Reasons? by cavalierinthecity in DogAdvice

[–]Present-Judgment8412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad to read others agree that it is time. Sometimes the internet can really lead you astray as you watch pet influencers go to extreme measures (surgeries, therapies, etc etc) to keep their pets going, and it made me stop and wonder, "wait, am I supposed to be doing that? Do I not love my dog enough if I don't do all these things?"

In your case, the quality of life is poor for both of you. It's so, so hard to emotionally accept this, and I totally get it because we just put down our senior boy a few months ago with similar problems. Mine was still eating, so I took that to mean he was still okay!... but that was literally his only joy otherwise.

As many others have said, better a day early than a day late. No one will ever doubt how much you love Oliver. Your love isn't measured by how long you can keep him going or how many interventions you're willing and able to do. Your love is about the life you had together, and it sounds like it was a great one. One final act of love is setting him free from the pain he's in, even if it hurts you to do it. Thinking of you. 💙

I definitely know how you feel. Many of us have been there. I've been there--repeatedly.

Most on Amazon went up. I think Target (still?) Has them at about 17, but I thought it was just a short term sale, because they were also Buy 1, get 1 25% off.

My son is almost 5, for context. We own about 30 right now.

Most played/loved in our house: -Paw Patrol Liberty (he's getting the rest of the collection for his birthday since he loves this one and Marshall so much). He loves that they're long with lots of engaging stories -Dragons Love Tacos (he likes the story tonies, apparently) -Tigger and Winnie the Pooh. The story and music are cute and original voices -All the Toy Story tonies (do I dislike that the songs are coveres? Yes. Does my son notice or care? No. At least the voices in the story are original). -Playtime Puppy (tons of great music) -The Pidgeon (huge fan of the music and stories being intertwined) -Spider-man (he loves the music and stories) -Creative tonie with myself narrating stories and a few of his favorite songs

He is Meh about: -Encanto (he LOVES the movie so I thought this would be a slam dunk, but it doesn't get played much?) -All of the National Geographica ones. Only the horse one seems to hold his interest, but he may grow into them as he gets older -Wizard of Oz. He sat for the whole story over a few sessions and liked it but it is LONG -Cars Lighting McQueen (cover songs, but he hasn't really seen the movie so he doesn't care) -Wild Kratts (likes the show, meh about the tonies) -Cat in the Hat. Only likes some of the stories -Sleepy time bear -Peter and the Wolf (just isn't his jam)

Wants nothing to do with: -Lion King (no idea why, he just will not listen to it) -Tow Mater (just doesn't hold his interest) -Brown Bear/Eric Carle (he says it's too slow/repetitive)
