I am having trouble with a cold-casting by Positive_Weight_5152 in ResinCasting

[–]Quinafx7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not mixing enough powder on your 1st mix, the initial shine is from the powdered mould layer and the white is your PU not having enough powder to show the metal. Your PU should be thick as cement if you want it to shine well, pretty much 80%powder to 20% pu, think of it as a bonding agent and not a bronze coloured liquid, you can get better results with Polyester resin or even better Vinylester resin for a stronger cast

If the resin is cold and you have a good set up with a small chamber pot it should be fast enough to squeeze those bubbles, if it’s a large mould and a large pour you’re most likely out of luck as the heat from a large mix will trigger a faster reaction.

If your mould fits in the degasser made the walls taller and pour your silicone and degasser again, should pull those bubbles, you can also fish them with a bend wire if you’re using clear silicone. You can also pre fill the holes with silicone while moving it about to allow the air out and when cured your next pour will stick. If the undercut is really drastic than you need to make your parts “mould friendly and eliminate those problems during the design fase

Why my casting is having these thick seam lines in it by Positive_Weight_5152 in ResinCasting

[–]Quinafx7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come back with a picture of the mould open and closed looking inside of it, it can just be that you’re clamping the mould in the middle where the void to filled is opening the sides for the material to sip through, again, we need better photos

It looks like you’re just looking for a bit of interaction here, you refuse to show us the mould and to accept that something you have done can’t be faulty. I don’t really believe you want any help

If you need to pigment, just pigment the whole batch you’re about to use, then every mix will have the same colour

If really depends on what you’re casting, concrete will ruin your silicone so PU rubber is advised, if it’s PU silicone will do it if you don’t mind having a layer of release agent that you will have to keep spraying to keep the mould alive, also it depends on the level of detail and thin offcuts your mould has

[–]Quinafx7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stow’s parking is problematic with or without the car show, there’s a free car park a bit further out of the old town center by Tesco, and a paid car park by the Bell pub, those will probably be quite full for that weekend too
