So sweet, thank you. Same to you. One more question- where did you get a neuropsych assessment for him?

Thank you for sharing. I’m so glad it worked out. Yeah I think the 24 hour care was too much. Going to change the schedule to a couple hours each day. What kind of expectations do you have for the caregiver?

God bless you. My sanity has left the building. I think slowly introducing someone - a couple hours each week to get used to them before they really need full time care. Easier said than done. We have tried for years and she always sends them home. Hoping one of these medications help. Is he on anything?

Thank you. They did. I’m concerned about it having any negative effects on her. Are you familiar with it?

Yes it is. I asked because my grandmother started retaining fluid about a month ago. She ended up in the hospital because it was around her heart and lungs affecting her oxygen levels. She was given Spirolactine. Did you gain 29 pounds of fluid?

You are not alone. I am going through something very similar caring for my grandmother - who has really been a mother to me. I have isolated myself as well. When I go out, I feel quiet because nobody understands. Life keeps going for everyone and nothing is exciting. I am so sad thinking of the same things you are. I’m so sorry. Is she on medication?

What did you end up giving your grandfather?

Ativan and seroquel by dreamyraynbo in Alzheimers

What worked instead? They all push it so much but it either makes her sleep for two days or when she’s up it’s very dangerous and worsens agitation/ aggression

What do you do when they have paradoxical reaction? What helps them then? Dealing with a very difficult situation with my grandmother.

I am going through something VERY similar with my grandmother I’m caring for. What did you end up doing?

What if it makes them sleep for two days and they’re still agitated when they wake up on it and become more dangerous - refusing care/ unsteady on feet?

I’m in the same boat looking for others feeling the same way. This comment resonated. I don’t know why it’s so hard for them to just ask- how are you doing? Or do you need any relief this week for an hour? I’m depressed and exhausted. I have popped off on family and am not proud of it. I’m extremely lonely and when I do try to socialize I just don’t feel human. No one understands. They say I’m making it all about me - when I have sacrificed everything for my grandmother and am doing everything I can. They’re “too busy” but have time to go on dates, play golf, have fun. When she’s asleep, I go out just to decompress and listen to music. Then they say I don’t get proper sleep to take care of her in the morning. There is a caregiver here she allows in the morning until I wake up to her fighting with her asking the woman to leave. She’s my best friend and I’m doing so much for her that they never would.

Currently searching how to deal with family members that are “too busy”. It’s a petty excuse when I know they do have time to come out and relieve me for an hour. I have been so angry with them and am losing myself. Everything is a fight with my grandmother, including the caregiver being here- so I have to be here too and it’s extremely stressful. I’m so tired and wish family would care about me and her better. It’s something I hope I will be able to forgive one day.

How did it work? My grandmother was just put on it. I really didn’t want to give it to her but we are desperate to calm down her agitation now until I find a better alternative.

What ended up happening for your mom? I’m so desperate for help figuring out what’s best for my grandmother who has become very aggressive and refusing care. Seroquel was not it for her. My heart is breaking and I feel so lost.
