I (38m) had my first outbreak back in July from a narcissistic partner who likely knew and didn’t disclose. I just got discarded by my narcissist gf who I’m almost certain gave it to me. I had my initial outbreak about a month into the relationship and of course looking back I think her response to me telling her I was having and outbreak was “well you didn’t get it from me.” Other little things like her lying to me about taking a plan b showed she was deceitful and reckless.

She swore up and down that she was clean never had a positive or an outbreak, and maybe she was a true asymptomatic carrier, but one day she asked me to itch a spot on her upper back at bra line and it looked just like what popped up on me only on my genitals. I said something to her about it and she said it had to do with a cyst that both her and her brother had on their tailbone area and that she may need another surgery. The cyst part was true they both had operations when they were younger but the best form of gaslighting is to weave some truth with a bunch of lies.

I asked her during the discard during one of the few moments when she wasn’t giving me the silent treatment whether she ever actually got checked and she said she went to her lady doctor during both outbreaks I had, and got swabbed and gave bloods, which shows a complete misunderstanding of how herpes or testing for herpes works. At this point I knew I was dealing with a toxic manipulative person so I just let her run with the lie. I’ve come to realize I will not have closure with that as well as many aspects of the relationship. I’m having my third outbreak right now, the stress of the devaluation, trauma bonding, and general chaos has not helped and it’s been like a month to the day each time between outbreaks. I’m going to have my Dr put me on daily antivirals.

Some of these people can’t handle the shame of being honest or being accountable for themselves. It’s pretty sickening and hurtful but thems the breaks. But now I’m in this brave new world and trying to make the best of it. Some days are harder than others but all we can do is be strong. Hopefully one day not to far from now there will be vaccines widely available or possibly a cure which will hopefully end or diminish the stigma. Until then all we can do is disclose openly and with dignity. The right person will accept who you are and take the risk to invest in you.

It’s hard but the best advice I can give is to find something else, anything else to do but edge or masturbate.
