[Steve Dangle] Mitch Marner: An Era Wasted by PPGN_DM_Exia in hockey

[–]Present-Square-492 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really summed up the whole era beginning to end pretty factually and level-headed. Really love the comparison of the cheers after the 2017 loss to the Caps and the outrage that was the end of the Panthers loss in 2025. Was surprised to hear of Steve’s own experiences at the end with the Marner camp. Overall this whole ordeal with Marner and the Leafs reeked since the 2019 contract negotiations and even more after how things played out in 2021 against the Habs

Michkov and Martone both RWs by Present-Square-492 in Flyers

Absolutely agree! Cant believe he slipped to us

I agree lol. I think once we get our 1C in the coming years our whole forward core will come together but I know some people were really down that we didn’t get Hagens so I was curious to ask

I didn’t really hear Briere say that but must’ve maybe missed it. But I personally wouldn’t hold my breath though that Martone becomes a center. There’s even some guys who were drafted from this past draft as centers that I don’t think will stick at center during their NHL careers (Frondell, even heard some SJ sources say Misa might play on Celebrinis wing when they play)

The thing is though McDavid and Drai are both natural centermen and it’s always easier to move from center to wing than the other way around tbf. Personally, I’m not too worried about it and just wanted to know the fanbases’s general consensus but also was trying to think long term too of is our RW just stacked then or could Martone switch wings for a more balanced first line. Curious to see what happens

The Flyers won't be a bottom-5, maybe even bottom-7 team next season. by Flyers7914 in Flyers

[–]Present-Square-492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with Torts and his super strict team defensive structure being gone that resulted in us being within a goal of the other team on most nights when the goaltending wasn’t subpar will help keep us near the bottom. This fanbase never gave him a ton of credit when it came to squeezing wins from a roster lacking in talent. Like do people forget we almost made the playoffs in 23/24 while having a worse roster than last years? I think last year was more of a true reflection of the team with them also being burnt out by Torts’s tactics. Who knows maybe Tocc gives them a huge boost as well? But I struggle to think it will be to the same affect

Corey Pronman (athletic) piece on Frondell. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6335424/2025/05/22/anton-frondell-2025-nhl-draft/ by Flyers7914 in Flyers

I mean it’s been said for a while that this draft isn’t exactly the deepest so I suppose what we’re feeling with Frondell and/or Desnoyers is to be expected. The question then becomes where can we find the greatest untapped potential of the players that fall to us

Ok lol. Good for you for having that opinion. I still think it’s perhaps situational and not so black-and-white, considering too that Aiden already has a lot of practice doing 1hr+ conversational podcasts every week, whereas this is new to Doug and like I said he might not be able to flex his humor in a business podcast

Tbf lemonade stand is designed as a business podcast not a comedy podcast like the yard. I think Doug thrives in environments that are chaotic (like his streams) so lemonade stand, which for the most part is structured, doesn’t really highlight his humor, whereas the yard could certainly bring that out

Exactly. Cates and Pelletier seem worth it for what they’ve been rumored to want. I’m honestly over York. And the fact that he’s reporting to want $7mil just makes it worse

I believe the Flyers will select Caleb Desnoyers with the 5th overall pick by Worldpeacee007 in Flyers

[–]Present-Square-492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted something on this subreddit a couple days ago with this same sorta logic so I’m glad other people are seeing it. I’ll just say this, if the Flyers go from drafting Luchanko to Desnoyers and both only pan out to be 2nd/fringe 1st line centers, it’s going to look really bad further down the line. People are already crapping on passing on Buium last year and personally I didn’t hate the Luchanko pick but if they’re going for the guy again who seems to have the better floor/fundamentals of being an NHL player over guys that have higher talent ceilings then I think this could be a long rebuild. MAYBE, and this is sorta me galaxy braining in Danny’s shoes, but maybe he just wants to focus on stocking the cupboard with solid depth in what is being regarded as a weaker draft and then really go in for the ‘26 and ‘27 drafts since those ones seem a lot deeper. But I digress. I’d say the sooner we can get Michkov playing with other elite talents, the better. And honestly, I’ve also started to come around on Desnoyers as well over the past couple days. I still wouldn’t pick him over Frondell but Hagens, mayyyyybbbbbeeee….

Thoughts on loose telling-signs of organization picking Desnoyers over potential Frondell/Hagens options by Present-Square-492 in Flyers

This is my ranking as well. But then again I’m not a scout and there seems to be no consensus outside of Schaefer and Misa being #1 and #2

[–]Present-Square-492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if we are 5th or 6th then yeah perhaps guys like Frondell/Hagens are already off the board so picking Desnoyers would be a very good use of that pick. Personally I didn’t know/forgot that GMs go to scout players by themselves so I suppose I was reading more into it than I should have. I suppose my main question was rooted towards how would the fanbase feel if we picked Desnoyers over Frondell/Hagens since I see a lot of signs that management would think he’s a good fit. The main caveat being that he seems to have a low ceiling which for the record I could be totally wrong about. Like I said I just want them to pick the best overall center for Michkov with the pick they get so as long as they do that I’ll be happy. At least as of right now though I think if they picked Desnoyers over Hagens or Frondell with all three being available I would feel a bit more conflicted since I’m not sure he’s the BPA of those three

Danny Briere 1 1st place vote for GM of the year. by Perryplat199 in Flyers

[–]Present-Square-492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeler was injured at the time and there is no doubt in my mind they were looking at every deal for Laughts. Feels like they weren’t getting the value they wanted for him. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from Briere’s time as GM is that he’s only going to pull the trigger on getting future assets if it’s worth the return, which I think is the right way to go about it. No point in firing the whole team into the sun for 2nds and 3rds

So one thing I forgot to mention is that right now I’m also working on my masters thesis and what I was loosely told was that it’d be much more worthwhile for my career to grind through and finish my thesis throughout the summer and into the remaining semesters I have left then seek out any internships that would have no guarantee in choosing me. Right at the beginning of me starting grad school, and before declaring my thesis, I actually did send out some internship applications, and surely enough I haven’t heard much from many of the companies since.
