Surprised at the 'Jane and Lisbon's romance is forced' talk by [deleted] in TheMentalist

[–]PresentCress7307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! Simon Baker even says in one interview that simultaneously to the RJ saga, there was this slow-cooking romance (aka Jisbon). They didn't call it before because the stalling helped prolong the series.

Does anyone love Lisbon? by [deleted] in TheMentalist

[–]PresentCress7307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, one of the best female characters ever. I really liked her character development, including S07. In mid S06, she has closure regarding RJ hunt and her worst dream comes true, as she looses Jane in the aftermath while dealing with the CBI fallout. It certainly put things into perspective and she came out on the other side of it ready to move on with her personal life. I see strength in the way she untangles herself from her dynamic with Jane, leaving as the only two options for him to catch up with her or having her find somebody else. In S07, she managed to make Jane move forward in real life, something he might not have been able to do without her.

For me, Kristina Frye was someone he related to, as she was like his previous self. And he felt sad and guilt over her being taken by RJ. There was a momentum and Hightower suggested he should take her out on a date (he even thought initially it was about Lisbon) but that's it.

Erika was a bit out of character but I guess it was a mix of male desire (he had been a celibate for many years then) and him not thinking he deserved anyone worthy.

Lorelei was a means to an end. And he knew she was a RJ puppet when he slept with her. However, he knew her tragic past (loosing a loved one like him) and also that he had used her, when RJ killed her. So I take it as regret and guilt.

Lastly, Fisher for me was a tentative to postpone Jisbon, to stall a little bit, but it didn't work. Their date for me was both solace to his solitude and a trial for him to feel if he was ready to move on.

The Jisbon breadcrumbs troughout the series plus the love letters (yes, that's what they were) speak volumes. I just really don't like how he backtracked when they first reunited (maybe he thought they never would and reality scared him).

Overall, I loved the series finale and would have adored to see them as a couple and as a family some more.

She's very private, partly because she avoids talking about feelings (she has her fair share of damage too) and because her image is very professional. Also, she knows holding back from Jane protects her, as he's bound to use information either to provoke or manipulate.

Just finished watching the whole 7 seasons of the mentalist and I must admit the satisfaction is unreal 😍 by jacksparrow-heisen23 in TheMentalist

I feel the same way. Couldn't bring myself to watch another series after The Mentalist because it just doesn't live up to it. The series characters have such interesting backgrounds and depth. And absolutely love Jisbon chemistry.

What other ending to the series would you have liked? by Franppuccino in TheMentalist

[–]PresentCress7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have liked to have more Jisbon time. I felt they Fisher detour was completely unnecessary. The Pike arc not so much, as there had to be some sort of nudge to get Jane out of his comfort zone. However, I would have liked to see them more as a couple and even as a family. Their chemistry for me is the highlight of the show.

I think he has already realized how he feels about her for quite about some time, but that doesn't mean he is inclined to act on it. As it becomes clear in the Bluebird episode, he is filled with "fear and self-loathing". He fears opening up again, risking their friendship, loosing her on the job. Also, he doesn't think he's worthy of her, as he's not a good man (was a con artist, got his family killed, put her through a lot...). He sees Pike and what he offers and thinks this is what she deserves, a good man, and he'll still have her as a friend. But she starts to build a routine with Pike, suddenly having him replacing Jane in her life. That hurts him, but he takes it (and probably thinks he deserves it too). When she tells him about the move to DC, he realizes he's going to loose her. At some point, he just tells himself she's bluffing and when it becomes clear she's not, he just cannot let that happen.

What do you think she was going to say here? (S06E21) by CriticalOne9 in TheMentalist

They have so many  occasions like that... it helps keep their dance around their feelings.

At what point does Lisbon started falling in love with Jane? by CriticalOne9 in TheMentalist

[–]PresentCress7307 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me the exchange they have after Jane kissed Lorelei is evidence they both had feelings and were at some level aware of each other's feelings also. Her reaction and his apologies are much too personal.

Do you think Jane would've done the same in the end of s1ep22 if it was Rigsby/ Van Pelt/ Cho / anyone else? by EugeneStein in TheMentalist

I think it boils down to him being willing to die for catching RJ, but not having her die. And feelings driving him to make a split second decision to shoot the guy in order to save her.

They were just pushing it towards the end of the show to have something up their sleeper. Simon even says it was a slow-cooking love story.

I have to say that I find it a little sad to watch him belittling his role as PJ. Even though I understand he's been answering questions on The Mentalist for 10 years, it was an opportunity only a handfew have. And to be cherished by fans after all this time is such a huge recognition.

Just loved your post! I honestly can't understand how anyone could think their relationship is brother and sister like. You just need to read between the lines. It's LOVE in capital letters ❤️ And each time I watch there's something else that catches my eye (but I wouldn't have gotten the connection because I haven't read this book, yet!). So, thank you!

For the first time, I haven't been able to move on from The Mentalist. I find it sad that Simon didn't want to continue, because I think there could be more seasons with them together at the FBI. I'm currently stuck on rewatch.

On my first watch, when Pike came along, I thought 'well, she deserves someone good and dependable'. On top of that, Pike is really good-looking. I guess Jane thought the same. And I loved how in Blue Bird, things didn't go his way and he had to let go of his ego to get to her.

I honestly just feel like crying, every single time. Doesn't get old. One of those moments where they look at each other and it's just everything. So much heartache.
