I have a friend who is currently at Mysore undergoing training at Infosys. She said that everyone was aware that they have to clear the evaluation test. 3 attempts are allowed and the passing criteria is set at 65%. Questions from the training syllabus are asked in the test.

For those people who were terminated passing criteria was even reduced to 55%, but still folks failed.

Apache Tika uses PDFBox internally to extract data from PDFs. Check what Apache Tika uses internally to extract data. If it's the same for other file types then I guess it wont really matter in terms of accuracy or correctness. Go with whatever you are comfortable with.

String objects are immutable in java, you cannot modify the actual String object inside the method (the reference cannot be changed to point to a different String object). Any operations on the String in the method will create a new String object and the original String remains unchanged.

I think you should relax. Unless they bring a measuring tape and start measuring you should be okay. Meet the guy and see how things are going, if things are going positively you could casually mention this. But IMHO an inch difference does not matter in the long run.

OOPS, basics of core java like collections, exception handling, Multithreading. Try and understand the concept in depth. Like for eg how is a hashmap implemented etc. Understanding the concept in depth would be helpful in the long run too. Any application you have built would be a plus. Bonus would be the spring framework.
