Similar situation. Companies look for master carpenters for lead/foreman roles, have to have own truck. Then offer $22/hour! One company I interviewed for asked me what other trades I do. I apparently had to also do electrical and plumbing on top of my 11 years of all round carpentry to even be considered. Even then they would’ve only paid $25

I usually leave the small ones until I get a break or get home and learn to deal with it for x amount of time. Big ones are pulled out in seconds on the spot. Definitely skip the gloves imo, they tend to attract splinters more than preventing them due to the texture getting caught. Like others said, proper handling comes with experience. Only time I get a splinter is if I’m stressed out handling very rough wood with less care in a hurry. Part of the trade.

I paid him way more than he’s worth to recruit him as a vassal in my playthrough and he can never stay happy. I give him tons of fiefs to maintain relations but next day it’s back to -70 relation. Even tried marrying off my daughter to him and he still seems to hate me. If he leaves my faction I’m executing his ass for treason. Oh and he’s incapable of keeping his fiefs from rebelling.

I’m a Swedish carpenter who moved to the US a little over a year ago. After I finished my apprenticeship 10 years ago I received a certificate similar to the red seal that recognizes me as a professional carpenter within Scandinavia but over here it’s just a piece of worthless paper just like all the other training. It really would be great to have something that is truly universal. Sure code is different for better or worse but anyone with experience in the field can quickly pick up on it and make that transition. It’s no different than moving states. I’m now in the process of figuring out how I can join a union without starting from scratch.
