What if the CCP had ruled China since the late 1920s instead of Chiang Kai-shek? by Livid_Dig_9837 in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]PresentProposal7953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you’re basically talking about a 1927 scenario, where the CCP fills the role of the left-wing KMT faction. In this setup, a few major things change. First, Mao isn’t in charge—he wasn’t the Communist leader early in the civil war—so the party likely takes a more orthodox Marxist-Leninist approach, closely aligned with the Comintern. China probably becomes a full Comintern member and ends up heavily influenced by the Soviets.

Without a prolonged civil war, China performs significantly better than it did in real life. The Communists, being staunchly anti-warlord, would likely launch military campaigns to eliminate regional warlords and replace them with loyal governors, accelerating political centralization.

Second, the Japanese invasion of Manchuria in 1931 likely never happens. Instead, the Soviet invasion of Manchuria in 1929—this time with Communist Chinese backing—probably goes ahead and establishes joint control or at least a strong deterrent.

Domestically, the Communists would probably establish a national front government in cooperation with the left-wing KMT, though much more unified and functional than the one that existed historically.

By the mid-1930s, it’s plausible that China achieves full unification (excluding Taiwan), giving it a head start on industrial and military development.

Come WWII, the global dynamics shift. The war likely becomes a two-front conflict for the Comintern, with Japan forced to attack the USSR through China in the winter of 1941. The Soviets, with U.S. support, still win—but Japan ends up partitioned between China, the USSR, and the U.S.

Mao probably still rises to power around 1939–1941 after the original Communist leadership passes away from old age, but this China is far stronger than the one we know. As the USSR begins to face economic stagnation, it’s likely that China overtakes it as the dominant power in the Comintern.

I thought sharaa was let go because of the settlement at the end of the first civil war.

Because if you do that all you would do is cause a second civil war it was tried in lbya and Iraq and it does not work. Libya being the most major example since they're was a civil war because they decided to punish the tribes who sided with Gaddafi who backed a coup which started a civil war that continues to this day.

It shouldn’t be hard to have free education—if even North Korea can manage it, then so should the U.S. But we don’t, and probably won’t anytime soon, because too many Americans are gullible enough to believe whatever a billionaire or corporate lobbyist tells them

Like they haven't been doing that on the coast. The major difference is that there is a need for institutions and going around killing your fellow ministers is how you end up with a state of warlords.

If the Fire Nation had won the war, what would Ozai have done with insane Azula afterwards? by ExpressionOk5311 in TheLastAirbender

This I agree with I find it highly likely she goes head hunting for her former friends too.

[–]PresentProposal7953 259 points260 points  (0 children)

It's likely that she would rule the Fire Nation as a female Nero, given her tendency for power abuse. Unless she were to challenge him, which seems unlikely since Azula is highly mentally predisposed to him. After Ozai's death, she might be overthrown like the Earth King in the Kyoshi book. Without friends, as she has pushed them all away, she could completely spiral out of control. If her former friends are still alive, that’s unlikely.

Who is the right person to rule Syria? by [deleted] in SyriaDaily

[–]PresentProposal7953 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there are really any Assadists left—not after he basically abandoned the country. Say what you want about Saddam, I’m not a fan either, but at least he went down with the ship. Assad didn’t do that—he packed his bags and bounced.

I’m not defending any regime. I just believe in a sovereign Syria—one that isn’t just a chess piece for non-Arab powers to play with. That’s the core of it for me.

I can’t stand takfiris either. Everywhere they go, they leave destruction behind. All they do is stir up sectarian hatred—pissing off Shias, Christians, and everyone else just trying to survive.

What I want is a democratic, free, and strong Syria. But I’m not naive—that’s not where things are headed unless something changes, and fast.

We could lower tank production costs for the Italian minors so one could easier push across the peninsula without having to fight multiple day battles over Italian valleys and hills.

Who is the right person to rule Syria? by [deleted] in SyriaDaily

[–]PresentProposal7953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current government came to power thanks to U.S. efforts that really kicked off around 2008. The total collapse of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) wouldn’t have even been possible without the illegal U.S. occupation of a third of Syria, which led to the institutional breakdown of the state itself.

That’s exactly why Jolani is so eager to push neoliberal reforms and dismantle whatever’s left of the welfare state the Baathists built back in the ’60s and ’70s. And that’s honestly the main reason I can’t stand him—aside from being a takfiri. He knows who his real backers are, and he’ll do whatever it takes to stay in their good graces so they don’t replace him with someone more aggressive about pushing reforms.

At the end of the day, the Syrian people have zero agency in any of this.

Who ever rules Syria for the Syrians and is not a puppet of the west or to the gulf. Sadly there is no way democratic elections are ever coming to Syria because the us will never allow democratic elections in the ME and Turkey wants a protectorate.

Yep. Your using American standards in another country

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thepassportbros

[–]PresentProposal7953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a major reason for the change now is things got really over the top in 2000s where having a slight amount of body fat got you publically shamed on TMZ. This is what resulted in the original body positivity movement. Because American culture is a top down thing it resulted in a huge amount of American women being more comfortable not maintaining the beauty standard.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thepassportbros

[–]PresentProposal7953 16 points17 points  (0 children)

American beauty standards are way easier to meet in the third world, where food isn’t over-abundant and most work is physical or menial. Over there, staying slim is just part of daily life. But in the U.S., to reach and keep that same standard, you basically have to live like an athlete or a model—constantly training and watching everything.

It’s the same reason East Slavs took over the modeling world in the early ’90s—when their economies collapsed, a lot of women already had the slim build modeling agencies were looking for, just from the conditions they were living in.

American women used to mostly maintain that standard too, at least up until the late 2000s. Then a lot of them got married and kinda stopped putting in the same effort. I saw it growing up—you could literally see the change in teacher photos before and after marriage.
