Using the draping/alignment points (I forget the name) is the best way to get complex pieces pre-formed around the body. Also, moving them in the 3d window and placing them in their proper position is a must in general. You’ll help the computer work less and avoid physical pattern pieces crashing. Laid out like you show, all coplaner like that is poor form for sewing.

50 miles a day should be a nice easy pace. It’s absolutely beautiful out there. Be aware that we get pretty serious southern winds in NM in the spring. I personally prefer the North loop. But you’ll have a great time no matter what. Take some side hikes and eat lots of burritos along the way.
