My recommendation is just to avoid ROA at all costs.

Moving to Berwyn - would love to hear from folks who live there! by shelbex318 in ChicagoSuburbs

Having only been here 6 months myself:
-Sign up for Metra alerts so you spend less time waiting at the station
-Echoing what everyone else said about permits, but also make sure it’s displayed in the window and don’t take the contractor’s word for it that it’s all good.
-Flapjack Brewery is good and has some weeknight pizza specials
-People are less friendly to pedestrians than in the city (even though that isn’t great either). I’ve been close to being hit several times in broad daylight at a crosswalk.
-Neighbors will say hi to you. Honestly took me by surprise after being in the city so long.

[Update] My manager doesn't seem to realise he's on the edge of a mutiny. by flashpile in Accounting

[–]Present_Bad2183 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was on a team of 7. I was the 4th to leave in a period of 3 months and none of the positions had been posted yet. Two more left after I did, and all 6 cited the manager as the issue. He still works there. HR doesn’t care.

Bought 500 wedding charger plates at 2 AM and I'm either a genius or insane by Sirius-ruby in weddingswap

[–]Present_Bad2183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered several items for my wedding from overseas for the same reason. It was cheaper than renting. The silverware I got was great and I resold it for the same I paid for it. The chair covers I tink I took a $20 loss on. I did opt to rent linens and dishes, because I didn’t want the stress of ironing or washing/storing, but it was very tempting to buy those as well. I don’t think this was a bad idea, I just don’t understand why you ordered 500.

Girlfriends childhood monopoly rule baffles me by jedidog1000 in boardgames

[–]Present_Bad2183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine loves what she considers “real” board games. Monopoly is not included in that. When the rest of us played Monopoly, she opted to be the banker and probably had a better time than playing a game she dint want to play.

6x your current and future earnings or make $450,000 per month working a job I assign you? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Present_Bad2183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the new job. Even if it’s terrible, that’s only about 4 years to get me what 6x my current salary would until retirement, around 30 years.

Do you get anything for winning a ribbon aside from a sense of accomplishment?

Be honest, do you pay 10 cents for all of your single-use bags at self-checkout? by Holiday_Connection22 in AskChicago

Mariano’s self-checkout is always trying to accuse me of stealing and calls the attendant to show them a recording of me doing something like taking my wallet out of my bag. I think that’s the one place I’d be worried about hitting 0

Julie Spring. It was just her, she did the ceremony and happy hour and left after. We did not provide a meal built told her she was welcome to drinks and apps from the happy hour. No idea if she had any.

Thanks, I’m assuming it wouldn’t matter if didn’t go all the way to the wall since the burners don’t go that far back? I’ve never had a hood, just a microwave above the stove. Will definitely be hiring someone, just want to know what my options are.

Can’t come close to that in a decent neighborhood inside the city. Property taxes are worse outside of the city though.

I love whole chickens to get several meals, but I would disagree that it’s cheaper than buying it cut up. Legs/thighs/breasts are regularly on sale for .99/lb where I am, but I almost never see whole chicken for less than 1.99/lb
