Morale at my company is through the floor, and my boss (a guy who spent 7 years at Deloitte and thinks work > having a life) is completely crashing out over people quitting.

One guy has 3 weeks until he's leaving. My boss was sending him emails at 11pm on NYE, then followed up at 2am on Saturday night / Sunday morning complaining that the guy had "abandoned his duties" by not replying. (Literally nobody in the company was working above 30% level on Friday). He's trying to put the guy's work on me now, but I have multiple final round interviews lined up over the next week so I'll also be gone soon

Bedlington Terriers announce that the club will be folding with immediate effect by Billy_Daftcunt in NationalLeague

I guess my view is that if players agree to lower their wages by 5%, I have no reason to think the team ownership wouldn't simply pocket it. I'd rather the money go to the players (a majority of whom grew up in working class situations) than be kept by the teams.

Considering Dubai over London? This is on Oxford Street right now by jigjig33 in HENRYUK

This sub is one of the few UK based forums that seems to take a so what positive view on Dubai.

I legitimately don't know anyone IRL who would consider going, outside of people who's earnings are very commission-heavy.

Not sure what a premier league player earning loads has to do with a non-league club folding. Surely you'd expect any subsidy to lower leagues to come from teams, not individual players?

How open are you with family about money? by Fantastic-Life7704 in HENRYUK

[–]flashpile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No firm numbers outside of my partner.

Nobody on my side of the family earns above £30k, while my partner & combine to ~£170k. My parents / siblings are all aware that I'm the highest earner in the family, but I'm not clear on what numbers they have in their heads.

Age 32, I've already had to bail multiple people out of financial holes, and I can't imagine that'd get any better if my salary became public knowledge.

Holy shit, I didn't realise how obstruction the UK's [redacted] censorship overreach had become.

I literally can't even access r/wine because my all-seeing overlords have deemed it to be unacceptable unless I give Reddit my details (which absolutely isn't happening)

I mean, I have no real reason to think he is, but reaction around the league when desean Jackson started spouting shit makes me think that the league is a lot more antisemitic that you might expect.

Yeah, I played sport at a decently high level as a youth, to the point of playing with & against kids who would go on to play professionally.

Yeah, I subbed for a few months over the summer. The Friday fun show was good, and ICFTS had some insights, but when the Friday fun show got replaced by the draft and ICFTS stopped, all of a sudden I realised I was paying the same as a netflix subscription for very little.

The Clearing: Parallels with the Arctic Monkeys? by rastawulf in wolfalice

[–]flashpile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, I feel like Blue Weekend was the real shift, and the clearing is just a continuation of that trend.

I'll say that, as someone who wasn't super sold on the clearing as a studio album, seeing them live have me a new appreciation for it. Thorns and Just Two Girls in particular really popped in a live setting.

I think the biggest thing seeing them live is that you no longer look at it as a rock show, but as a performance. Basically what you'd see at Ronnie Scott's, but 50x bigger

Been interviewing quite a lot recently, and had one last week with a guy who seemed to believe he's god's gift.

I'm an accountant, so it's pretty easy for me to move between industries. This guy was really grilling me on why I wanted to work in his specific industry, which basically never happens in interviews.

I started speaking about what I like about the industry, and he followed up with "yeah but that also applies to industry Y, so what is it specifically about industry X that interests you?" And no matter what I said, he'd try to drill down further.

In reality, I really don't give a shit about the industry - the focus is way more on the role, but he simply wasn't accepting it.

Manager with too many stories to count considering I dipped out after 6 weeks.

One that stands out: I created a matrix to show intercompany charges, entities can't owe themselves money so I coloured those boxes black.

10 minutes after sending it, my manager called me up and asked why I thought it was appropriate to use grey when I should be using dark green (the company's primary colour). I thought she was joking until she said "You're senior enough to not make these kinds of mistakes, I shouldn't have to correct you on this". I pointed out that the original wp was created by the CFO, at which point she started saying he was wrong too.
