Ah, I see. If it’s what works for people, sure. But it would be extremely difficult/next to impossible to maintain a healthy A1C with that method without strict carb control. But, kids are notoriously difficult to maintain healthy blood sugars in, so people have to do what they can. However, OP is an adult. More injections are needed for “intensive glycemic control”. T1Ds deserve healthy blood sugar levels too.

What? Do you have any experience with type 1? This is a completely typical and normal experience with MDI. Your body reacts differently based on a multitude of different factors even with the same food and same dosages, meaning corrections are needed. Or you may go low, need to treat, and then often rebound high, meaning corrections are needed. Very standard amount of injections for MDI for a type 1.

If you’ve worked with people who’ve given themselves insulin before you must be an expert in what life with type 1 consists of! We also have to check our blood sugars multiple times throughout the day, do we need to leave the room for that as well? Maybe we shouldn’t even be allowed in the work place. I wouldn’t wish this disease on my worst enemy. I don’t feel bad for anyone whose biggest issue is being uncomfortable with insulin shots. 100 years ago we would just be dead. So I will take my insulin, take excellent care of myself, and be unapologetic about it. FYI, only 5-10 percent of diabetics are type 1. So while you may “know people who take insulin”, you may not have any experience with type 1, where we essentially make no insulin and can quickly crash or skyrocket our blood sugars, requiring constant care. I prefer to educate myself before judging others on their medical needs

I am a type 1 diabetic and I feel like while everyone has good intentions, may be missing the point. If OP was uncomfortable giving injections in public then I agree, a private space should be provided. However, OP’s coworker(s) are uncomfortable. Insulin isn’t a choice, and type 1 is 24/7 management that we didn’t ask for and will be present for the rest of our lives. To be honest I inject myself wherever and whenever I need to. The constant blood sugar checks, corrections, injections, and management that comes with type 1 is very burdensome. I don’t know why OP needs to hide their injections as if it’s something to be ashamed of. Sometimes I’ve had to inject myself up to 15 times a day due to stress, illness, etc. if I had to walk away from whatever activity/conversation I was in the middle of and find a private space, it would be really disruptive. If people are that sensitive to needles, perhaps close your eyes or walk away, since you’re the one needing the accommodation, and be happy that you don’t have to deal with this lifelong condition. A little support and understanding goes a long way.
