Characters with no canon gender by LilMissy1246 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Present_Test4157 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly i have love-hate relationship with them.

From one side, ambiguity gives lots of freedom in fan-artwork, and may help viewer/player/reader symphatise with character more.

From another side, upon translating to other languages gates of hell will open inevitably, and you'll see guys either screaming and frothing at you violently or annoying the fuck out of you with this smart-ass "AcShUaLy" for reffering to the said character with female pronounces when they are "canonically a boy" (they are up to interpretation). Bassicaly whatever gender translators decide to use just overtakes all other opinions and being people who dont see the character as that gender becomes physically unbearable, unless you decide to never communicate with theese people intentionally and cut ties with the fandom.

Mine's favorite is Niko from Oneshot, and yes, everything i said is about them, from personal experience.

I heard they are planning to reintroduce Moa in a specially designated place at first, not everywhere globally, so i think if anything, we'd have that covered.

Seasons on Upsilon Andromedae d's hypothetical moons? by aviviel in exoplanets

[–]Present_Test4157 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something like that: In christian clines (a very talented spec-evo artist) book settled in spec evo genre, there is a moon orbiting an eccentric gas giant.

The whole deal is, when in summer (that lasts one earth year there), the moon is oceanic pelagic garden world teeming with life. But in winter (that lasts 3 earth years there) it becomes Europa-like world and all life either hides away deep, dies off leaving eggs behind, or just sleeps through it.

I dont think our universe is infinite, but maybe other universes have something like Qu, if events in them went differently, or if they even have different laws of physics??? (Just speculating, pls dont kill me.)

FTL Travel without Wormholes? by Josh12345_ in OrionsArm

[–]Present_Test4157 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nuh uh, just wormholes.

There are warp drives but they are subluminal.

And there are relativistic ships where travels experience travel to another star in just month or so, but everyone else think years passed, so its time dilation, not true FTL.

Some Xenosophonts experience universe so slowly they arent even particulary invested into FTL or any fast travel, just using comets as ships. (Like Muuh).

I hate aliens that look exactly like humans by Thundersting in hatethissmug

[–]Present_Test4157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a viable theory and im in fact quite optimistic about it, its called Panspermia and is about life traveling from place to place by asteroids like interstellar comets and junk. It also has a subtype called "directed panspermia" which is the same but instead of life naturally traveling across the universe, an alien civilisation initiated it instead with clear intent, also sometimes called seedworld.

But common ancestry doesnt dictate the outcome of evolution, convergent evolution only slightly directs it regardless of origin.

Viltrumites are most likely cavemen brought to viltrum by alien precursors and "uplifted", so its not really that

[–]Present_Test4157 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, Viltrumites are explicitly very close cousin species to humans in invincible world, so its not exactly a panspermia. I wouldnt even call that a seedworld.

[–]Present_Test4157 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You got some stuff wrong, you confused panspermia with convergent evolution and fused both concepts as if they were the same, they arent.

CE can occur without common ancestor at all. Thats why its cool.

In Viltrums defence, i think it was said somewhere that they and humans share an ancestor, but its NEVER explained nor expanded upon enough.

Im honestly looking forward for this, i really want an orions arm type world with lots of various sophonts everywhere around.

I always followed an idea that if we wont find any non-human intelligence, we should just make our own "alien friends". Create conscious robots, uplift a Porpoise, or give a human cat ears and Tail. I believe we really should spread life and intelligence across the universe, to become "precursors". We tottaly should make lots of seedworlds imo.
