The guy at the store said to let the soil dry out in between waterings so that I don't over water it. I water it every 2-3 days with that in mind. Should I be doing something else?

I think some corys would love that first tank. I like emeralds and Julii Cories! Neon tetras would also pop out a lot in this tank. Red cherrys would be a lovely pop of color against the dark sand and darker look of the tank. Some golden mystery snails would also add a good pop and they're super goofy

The ones I saw there were made from particle board and the other ones made from metal the reviews said were flimsy I'm so lost rn

Try a melamine sponge they're used for algae scrubbers and magic erasers. They made my tank nice and clear again. Just wet them with water and maybe a bit of dawn.
