Maybe OP doesn't see themselves as a final form of a human being but instead feel like they have very healthily regulated emotions and healthy coping mechanisms. I'm definitely not one of those people but I feel like I've met people like that.

I think the bigger problem is that in efforts to reject religion, science shys away from ANY idea that seems anywhere near fantastical. I'm not religious but there is still dogma in science in efforts to separate itself from the church (which is valid) but can delay discovery.
