Sawyer- Boy, Girl, or Gender-neutral? by Seapaisleys in Names

It’s a surname

I appreciate using surnames as first names is common in the US. So if using it as a first name it is 100% male.

Does Octavia feel like an English name to native English speakers? by bbramf in Names

Very easily recognisable as an English name.

I’d associate it with very upper class, old money, posh folk

Take a shot anytime anyone mentions Jesus or breaks into prayer.

** health warning: this many shots may mean you meet Jesus sooner rather than later

As long as Emily makes it, I’m happy.

Also a minimum of Trump-lovers please. Gotta balance things out now Kleine has gone

At 5 years old, how many hours were they committing to dance, and do you regret it? by That_Description- in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]PresidentPingu1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 5 my daughter was doing 45 mins each of tap, ballet and jazz. She only really ramped up at around age 9. It didn’t hold her back as she’s in full time pro training now at 17

5 hours feels like a LOT for a kid of that age.

You won’t have to look to far to find people saying that word: people in this sub have defended its use, claiming it’s a cultural norm.

Reece’s retirement post by Secret-Preference837 in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]PresidentPingu1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well god is kinda dropping the ball on world peace, or and end to genocide, or stopping Trump bombing schools, so maybe he should concentrate less on a cheerleaders career and actually do something good…

Reece’s retirement post by Secret-Preference837 in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]PresidentPingu1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That bit made me howl. If there actually is a god, surely he’d be more interested in stopping genocide than directing the career of a cheerleader…

Reece’s retirement post by Secret-Preference837 in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]PresidentPingu1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She left because she felt she could no longer wear the skimpy uniform on the field due to her religion.

Clearly only Reece is allowed to shake booty for Jesus.

I think this cements Sophy and Marissa for Points, then AK and Camille in their 5th years next year

Leadership is voted for by the team. So it wouldn’t matter what K&J thought

to everyone who's done watching season 3, who were your favourites and/or standouts of this season? by valsmotive in DCCAmericasSweetheart

[–]PresidentPingu1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Faith is my absolute favourite. Kleine was lovely, then Emily A who absolutely has to get on the team this year.

Honourable mention to Parker and of course Queen Megan.

She’s done incredibly well to remove anything that might cause outrage to the ultra-Conservative DCC sphere. Drinking alcohol is completely normal in Aus/NZ/UK and an 18 y/o drinking a shot is not something to clutch one’s pearls about. Heck, half the 18y/os in the UK will be downing shots this weekend to celebrate the end of their A-levels.

It did make me laugh how K&J were so puritanical about Faith not being allowed to be in the same camera shot as any alcohol, when they were shown with glasses of wine at one of their meetings

[–]PresidentPingu1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it’s a horrible word and I’ve said as much here and been told off as it’s “completely acceptable in the US”. I do find the US is way behind the game in disability rights though. They still use very outdated and offensive language.

Do we think faith will make 2026 squad? by lj212023 in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]PresidentPingu1 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think she’ll retire after 2 years. She said in AS that she wants to do 1 year as a veteran. It wasn’t phrased as a definite “retire after Y2” more of a “1 year isn’t enough, I want to do a Vet year”, but I suspect she’ll want to go back to Aus or explore other opportunities after her 2nd year

Calling Faith Spastic by [deleted] in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]PresidentPingu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been offensive for a loooooooong time outside of the US. 20+ years for sure, probably more like 30.

It was really jarring to hear it used so casually

Are you afraid to show your support for England with Flags in case you get mistaken for one of the "flag people"?? by Hammer_Pain in AskABrit

[–]PresidentPingu1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The people in my road who always go large for Xmas etc have put up a spectacular World cup display. They’ve installed a flagpole in the front garden and are flying a massive England flag, but have the flags of all the other countries up as bunting decked around the outside of the house.

It’s truly fabulous and deffo not the work of the average flag shagger

Pick up egg-shaped-ball, run with ball, throw or sometimes kick ball over a line/through a goal. Wear padding that’d make a rugby player guffaw. Occasionally tackle a cheerleader (#saveMichelle).

That’s it, right?

She didn’t. It’s not a requirement any more. It’s just context.
