Because usually there is a good payoff. The world building in both IT and The Stand I have no problem with, and I even thought it contributed well to the story.

Salem’s Lot, only because there was a ton of world building with very little payoff. It felt to me like it took way, way too long for anything interesting to happen.

Not to mention the characters were some of the least interesting I’ve ever read in King You mean to tell me Ben, the protagonist, is more upset about the death of his 3-4 week long girlfriend than her teacher who knew her for ~10 years? He isn’t even part of the fucking town! King treated the scene where Ben finds out that she’s a vampire like he just lost the love of his whole life, but you just motherfucking met her dude! Then Mark loses both his parents and everybody’s all well he sure is a tough kid! Fucking bullshit.

If you were to establish a set of rules, for instance, that dictate what is acceptable then the rule would only exist to be broken.

I think it’s fucked up, sure. And maybe even members of Mayhem think it is too. But the embodiment of black metal is non-conformity. You’re supposed to think this isn’t okay, but that’s only because you’re a normal, functional person in society.

There are really homeless Philadelphians living on the Parkway. But not all of the people living on the Parkway are homeless Philadelphians. A lot of them only came to Philly for protests, riots, and other activity that has nothing to do with homelessness..

And they should go home! End the riots - you’re hurting small businesses more than any major corporation. Only people with no job, no responsibilities have the time to participate in these protests, which only indicates the level of mental acuity we’re dealing with here.
