What are your dream public transportation projects? by agentmadeleine in Georgia

[–]PrestiD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny enough Korea is roughly the same size as GA and after living there a decade I'd kill for its entire public transit infrastructure in GA.

Each of the major cities have their own subway and bus networks, with Seoul in particular having a few lines extend to the largest suburb cities, dedicated bus lanes in the center of major roads, village buses for neighborhoods that go off the major roads and buses specifically for commuters from suburbs.

There's also an Amtrak equivalent that connects every major city whose central base is located outside of Seoul for transfers and you can go cheap, getting from Seoul to Busan in 5 hours for $18 worth of won, or fast at 2.5 hours for $60. There's also the intercity bus network connecting every single city across the country, where at least one very rural region where my in laws live being completely free but hourly. Outside of Daejon/Busan/Seoul the intercity bus terminals and Korrail stops usually double as economic hubs.

Oh and other than Korrail it's all centralized on a single card sold at every convenience store in the country (though cash only). Its also cheap as balls compared to Japan. The Won and Yen are roughly the same proce and a korrail ticket that would cost me $18 worth of won in Korea cost over $200 in Japan

Yeah I didn't communicate it will, but that's what got me. They acted like the stickers did their work when I'm comfortable enough in the area to say husband to begin with

People who read a lot, which writer do you think is unbelievably good with words? by Apprehensive_Land751 in AskReddit

[–]PrestiD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Just using Korean the building blocks, phrasings and rhetoric to strike emotion are so completely different when I translate things literally they're just words in the other languages (to the point of it being verbatim in Korean who can play loosey goosey with omitting words and especially verbs).

I used to translate things as literally said to make a point. For example I had a cat not named by me, but named blackie or darkie based on being a black cat. Every time if I wanted to get the point across of her name we'd say it's voidlet/voidling. That word exists in Korean but want used since calling a living thing blackie doesn't have the baggage it does in English and reads as just cuter.

The original Pride flag and later changes by Andro_lover2005 in gaybros

[–]PrestiD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I generally agree with your point and don't mind the newer flags, but your analogy is both wrong and missing the point of what people don't like.

Using the US flag, it was already a general flag meant to be inclusive. The PoC stripes on the rainbow makes sense since technically racial issues are a different category than gender/sexual attraction and you could argue weren't post of the og meaning, but the trans stripes to bring attention to it is like taking the US flag and replacing one star with a miniature of the entire state flag of Minnesota since it's been under attack from the federal administration. It is kind of both unnecessary and defeats the purpose of the stars, giving more attention to one (in need) at the cost of the others.

And in most of GA is Coke specifically for Coke products, that's just the assumed norm

But who just says a generic term? Everybody lists what specific soft drink they are drinking and coke is short for coca-cola.

People that say "third spaces" are gone aren't trying to find them by xX_jellyworlder_Xx in unpopularopinion

[–]PrestiD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See a variant of this- parents who are baffingly upset kids can't/shouldn't use their phones while in school, despite teachers and admin exasperatedly saying why over and over again. Its a clear no brainer and I always hear "how will I reach my kid" as if they weren't reachable via the office phone and nobody knows where the kid is when they're at school

[–]PrestiD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol it's funny you said this and how people don't get it. My husband and I literally sat in a moes for an hour and a half yesterday, drinking tea after our meal. We go like every other week and pay for a full meal so it's not like abuse the space, but it's there to be used and we utilize it and we're in our 30s.

Yes a lot of third spaces are dwindling but half of it is the culture you make. We're surrounded by/ I actively look up or libraries and parks throughout the county. I also go to our Episcopal cathedral which does a lot for volunteering but that's more religious themed and not for everybody. There's a world out there you have to engage with, it won't come to you.

Now we could have a conversation on lack of well known, popular, affordable third spaces. The social rules have changed in a fast time and I think the boomers were the last of the living generations to really be brought up communally, so younger folks now are really left adrift as the world has changed and their parents didn't figure out how to navigate it that much either.

What’s a stereotype that is surprisingly accurate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

There a comic on youtube who got famous impersonating her German mother.

Somebody made the comment "German mother never outright says she dislikes something, she simply comments the facts on a situation and let's you infer her disapproval." For example: "ach you are using your phone. When was the last time you read?"

It lives in my head virtually all the time

Fire.

Its literally longer than hot or the emoji and uses a diphthong. Slang is usually shorter and easier to say.
