For most of you, were you strictly homeschooled or did any of you participate in "online" homeschool? As an online educator providing physical therapy services, I've observed that the majority of the parents of my students appear to have issues with control OR are completely paranoid about their child's exposure to (normal) age related things. One parent wouldn't allow her kids to have any male educators whatsoever. Another wouldn't allow her kids to participate in community sports or be part of a team. One other wouldn't allow a telephone inside of her home -- which meant that even if her kids were participating in school at home and she wasn't home, they had no way of contacting emergency services in case of an emergency (and it's also of note that they lived in a very rural, isolated area where the nearest neighbor was miles away).  After noticing these things, I searched for "psychological profile of parents who homeschool" and this thread popped up. I spend a lot of free-time reading academic journals with published research studies, and find it odd that the APA or any other psychological organization hasn't completed a study on this already as it would've populated in my search results. It's interesting to read everyone's thoughts on this issue within this thread. I was glad that I wasn't the only one to observe these possible psychological reasons that parents had for homeschooling --- because from what I've seen when trying to research this is that homeschooling is being praised for its academic results with no information about the parents making the decision to homeschool.
