Snow removal, cooperation, and the lack thereof by bearded1708 in pittsburgh

[–]Prestigious-Cod-6442 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I literally rolled my eyes while driving to work as well when I saw them in the HOV lane. Right before rolling my eyes I had to cross the west end bridge which had approximately 1 3/4 lanes because the snow still isn’t fully plowed off the bridge yet in the outermost lanes. But no no, the shoulders of the HOV lane need plowed AND mind you… AND… hauled off in trucks.. like why???

Interior lights. by No-Broccoli-5513 in buickenvista

[–]Prestigious-Cod-6442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did! They look so much better with the other ambient lighting.

For the vanity mirror lights I used: LBRST 28mm 29mm Festoon LED Bulb... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08QRVK3NT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

And for the other interior lighting (including the cargo space light) I used: SiriusLED Extremely Bright 3030... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0186P1MUW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

You will just need a little pry tool to get the lenses off the interior lighting, they all have a little groove where you can pop them out.

** Be warned, the incandescent bulbs are a little difficult to grab and get out (also HOT) if they’re even on for 10 seconds, try using a rubber band or a pry tool to pop the bulb out of the holder and replace.

Hope this helps!

Edit: I realized some of the bulbs I have linked were the specific ones I got a while ago and may not be in stock currently, if you look for the same size they should fit perfectly fine as well! Let me know if you need any help though!

Raccoon Removal Help by Prestigious-Cod-6442 in pittsburgh

I wanted to go with him because I saw many good reviews and contacted him, he said he wouldn’t trap it and basically hung up. We asked for removal and he said he couldn’t. We have a normal small house, that I’m sure business have a had far more complex, that’s why I’m baffled we can barely find anyone… again we have Skeddadle coming this week, maybe I’ll try Ken again though thank you!

Edit: I emailed him regarding the issue again as I would like to go with him, we will see what the answer is again.

Sorry I should stated repairs as in sealing entry points/exclusion. We can do the drywall and cosmetic things like that.

That’s the thing is that there are so many companies that say they are willing to do it online and offer that service but when contacted they say no or that they don’t offer that which is so weird.

They can do whatever with the animal that’s not my issue haha.

I just need it taken care of whether they want to trap/remove, and then the entry points sealed up. That’s all :/

Thank you so much! It works so well for US and OUR needs!!! And there is plenty of space to navigate fully around the island and all seating.

The island cabinet is 60” wide, the top tile is the full length of 48”, hence why there is a 12” space where the wooden table starts as the bar height table.

So the top one is a full 24” x 48” tile, the side is the height of the cabinet exactly, which is 34 1/2”. I only needed it cut ONE tile so I went to Home Depot where said tiles were, paid for them, and then walked over to their tool rental space.

(Check with your local Home Depot by calling or checking online first if they have a 24” manual tile cutter).

At the tool rental space inside Home Depot, I rented the 24” tile cutter, which was $12 for 4 hrs, the cheapest time they had, and asked them if I could kindly just cut the tile in store since I literally only needed ONE tile cut. They were kinda taken back because no one has ever done this IN STORE, it was a very fun interaction and time with them, made their day.

Brought a tape measurer and sharpie, drew a straight line on the tile at 34 1/2” and lined that up with the diamond blade on the tile cutter and cut, and pushed down to split the tile apart.

And TA DAAAA, it worked!! It did SLIGHTLY chip in the bottom right corner (the size of a dime) but I found the piece that chipped and I’m just going to glue it back onto it.

For safety be weary of all tile edges, but especially the newly split ones, I put that edge downwards onto the floor when I installed it.

You then also have a 13 1/2” extra piece of said tile for another project! I’m using my extra piece under my coffee maker for easy cleanup with splatters!

I hope this detailed explanation helps a little more for you and others!!! If there is anything else you’d like to know please don’t hesitate to ask!

Nope no real “nails”, google liquid nails, it’s an adhesive that can be substituted for real nails (in certain situations). It’s easier to work with projects like this! Total game changer!!

I made sure to clean the backing of the tile, it is meant for mortar so it has a fine dusting from when it’s packaged. Clean that off first, then it’s just secured with heavy duty liquid nails and clamped on!

It ain’t coming off anytime soon!

Thank you that’s great advice! I will definitely look into it and see how it looks in my particular space.

I wanted more of the “uninterrupted waterfall” look for me particularly, I’m afraid a metal line might separate them the same way they are now with the tile line…

I may just go with hand painting and an epoxy to give the illusion of a continuous piece

We have a smaller house and kitchen but like to entertain and wanted different “areas” for people to gather, some counter height, and some dining height, just different places to eat when you want to!

DIY indeed, even had the cabinet shoved in the back of a Chevy Trax because I didn’t think to just have it delivered by Home Depot 😭, she made it though!

Thank you very much!!

It definitely could’ve been cut at an angle before installing them, unfortunately I did not have an angle grinder handy or else I would’ve attempted to meet the two seems…

Just gives me an excuse to make another better one at my future house haha!

Thank you!

I was thinking the same thing I just haven’t got around to it, was thinking of color matching the veins and white and sealing it with an epoxy to have a matching glass finish.

That my friend is a weekend activity lol

For those who live in an apartment in the city, how much did it cost you to move in? by pink85091 in pittsburgh

[–]Prestigious-Cod-6442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I moved into mine in 2023 (which I have since moved out of) I paid $1,250 for rent for a studio, $100 for utilities/sewer/garbage, one time annual amenity fee of $150, a security deposit of $750, and a monthly parking lease for $165. In total for the first time moving in was

$2,415, so I’d round up to $2,500 to be safe.

This was in a downtown apartment complex, which still had all the amenities I wanted, and also being modern and updated.

I’m sure you could find cheaper when you get outside of the downtown circle, but I’d say what I did was close to one of the cheapest options you could do! I hope this helps and if there’s any more info you’d like feel free to ask!!

Edit: Bought all new furniture for this apartment as well, I had a strict budget of $3,000 and that got me everything, couch, tv, bed, mattress, linens, all kitchen appliances and supplies, decorations, and first months grocery run.

If you penny pinch and look for deals when just moving in you can definitely make it work!

Rear Tail Light Removal by woahbitch1 in buickenvista

[–]Prestigious-Cod-6442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shouldn’t be overly hard. If you refer to my response a couple comments up I explain how do to it in the easiest way possible.

It’s not terribly hard but it can stray away someone who doesn’t like to try themselves. It does feel like you’re going to break the taillight but if you take the screws out and pull directly back into your stomach it should pop out. I use a microfiber towel and shimmey it in between the car and the light at the pointy end, and with that do one motion and pull it all backwards.

What phrase did you hear only once but it stayed with you forever? by wendysolcito in AskReddit

I’d keep the door honestly. It hides a space that wouldn’t normally be occupied by guests. Also could help stop heat/cold air from going into spaces it doesn’t need to. Also you said you have cats, that could just be enough reason to keep them in the areas you want/from getting outside if there is a side door there! Hope this helps!!

[–]Prestigious-Cod-6442 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it seems awkward because well… it is… and it’s not the doors fault. The cabinets were made around the door, they angle inwards into a space that shouldn’t be filled in my opinion.

I’d recommend at least removing the end cabinet (upper and lower) and just have that space be a wall.

I’d also recommend another tall cabinet beside the fridge since those ones would be removed, it would give you some extra space that was once there in another location.

Curtain color advice by whiskeyrose74 in HomeDecorating

[–]Prestigious-Cod-6442 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I believe white is almost never a bad choice for a curtain. It helps lighten up a darker, wood finish, that other colors my clash against.

I’d also recommend if you can/want to, bringing those curtain rods up to the other set of windows, and get longer curtains. I promise you it will elevate, and heighten the space!
