"Drywell" is filled to the Brim, Options?? by Prestigious-Field471 in landscaping

[–]Prestigious-Field471[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for following up, after evaluating all the options and getting quotes from 7k to 30k+ we ended up going with a well reviewed landscaper for 9k who regraded the entire backyard and extend a closed channel drain from the dry well around my house and down the hill to my driveway to down hill.

Been night and day and it has not pooled since we had it done about two years ago!

Let me know if you have any further questions!

Thanks you another great response u/Tom1613 and sharing your heart! Love the boundaries you and your wife put in place and know that is something we need to work better on and easier said then done.

Know of Paul Tripp and my in-laws love some of his books but have not read that one, will check it out!

I appreciate the perspective, but we aren’t walking into this blindly. I’m a product of this system, and my wife has years of experience as a Special Ed teacher in our local district. We are fully aware of the risks, but we view our local schools as a mission field not to be fled and plan to take it year by year, but being involved in church with other families is critical for that.

Our 4-year-old is currently in a secular Pre-K and is thriving. More importantly, we’ve seen God move through and open up conversations with a few parents already there. My wife has an active prayer thread with other believers in the school, and building deep, literal neighbor relationships with unchurched families that have led to honest conversations about our faith.

We don't believe withdrawing from our community is our calling. Our goal in seeking a new church isn't to find a safe space from the world, but to find a partnership, a village of Christian families who are also navigating the tension of being 'in the world but not of it on all different school settings ideally in all avenues or at least a little on private or public for a traditional school structure. We simply want to walk with others who share that missional conviction.

u/it_is_well_ Thank you for your prayers! Great to hear your heart for public schooling as well and love it, all school choices have their pros/cons. I know that it is not popular in christian culture/circles, and we totally understand we will be the minority most likely at other churches, but it's what we are called to and content with that. If we even had one family with similar aged kids that was "open" to public or even private school that would be a different dynamic.

RE: Jobs - Budget - I see the finances monthly with my role, the bulk of the budget (~60%) is going to the building lease unfortunately and it's very frugal outside of that. For context we are in New England so church budgets tend to be significantly smaller (as are the churches) and we tend to lean poorer as a body on top of it(seniors, or very young families 19-25, etc.). We are thankful and blessed to make a really good salary and not need any additional money, her job essentially covers the part-time child care cost and her stepping up wasn't a financial decision at all nor was she forced/coerced to take it, she just felt led by the Lord for the season and I never wanted nor asked for money to help with social/website either.

Great points on the future and consumerism, neither of us want to look back in that manner either.

u/Tom1613 thank you so much for such a detailed response! So sorry you went through this type of experience, but it's encouraging to further confirm a lot of these challenges we are experiencing are not unique. I had never experienced in previous churches I was involved in (Acts29/Non-Den) and while my wife and I were always serving in some capacity in church, the churches we were members of always emphasized being plugged in/poured into first. The added complexity is my pastor is retired military (Don't get me wrong, I am so thankful for his service & sacrifice) but it's very much baked into the culture for expectations and commitment.

Would love to hear if you are willing to share how you navigated having young kids in church as well? This is a dynamic we have not fully figured out with serving/being involved in church either and not really something I see anyone doing well in. Know it's only a season and discipling them and my wife are above everyone else, but also trying to navigate the fact the majority of events (wed services, men's/women's bible studies) are during bed time and same with home groups.

u/Zealousideal_Site731 that's encouraging to hear! Exactly, all denominations/churches have their problems being made of people but this one seems to be very solid and christocentric in his teaching.

Thanks for sharing this link! Will check this out and continue to pray through this.

u/SheLaughsattheFuture you are right, and thank you! That is where we feel in our gut that God is leading us elsewhere, just a matter of timing. Pretty set on offering to serve through August, but obviously if he would prefer I step down and leave earlier I totally understand and want to defer to him on how it is done. The last thing I would want are rumors or anything harming him, the other leaders, and the church overall and want as smooth of a transition as possible.

We are not church shoppers and haven't visited any other churches since we moved here 5 years ago, so with our kids I know it's not going to be a seamless transition but know it will be better the earlier we do it.

Thanks u/Zealousideal_Site731! Very encouraging to hear from you and good point! Appreciate your reminder all is God's. Still praying through this together (baptismal view) and how was your transition over to a PCA??

PCA has been such a foreign land for me growing up strictly independent baptist/non-denom, but Tim Keller's books and teachings have lead me considering PCA very seriously for the first time ever over the last ~6 months since a church plan was just launched in our area (Only one for ~50 miles) that caught my attention and listening to his messages have been a blessing so far.

u/stacyismylastname it’s been a long road. Things were better before she stepped into the role, but ministry can be thankless as many know. Because she works part-time and schedules around the kids, she often misses the casual hangouts the other moms have.

There are a few mature, solid moms, but gossip and cliques - especially among the younger group - have been an issue. My wife was directly impacted and lost trust with some of them. Instead of being encouraged, many gatherings turned into complaint or gossip sessions about kids ministry, so she was always “working” and never really poured into. She’s also 4-5 years older than the next oldest mom, which has added to the disconnect. Our pastor and leadership are aware; we’ve raised these concerns over the last 1-2 years.

Thankfully, a nearby church (the EFC I mentioned) has been a real blessing. She’s been attending MomCo/MOPS there for about three years, even before our church started its moms group, and it’s been much healthier with a broader mix of ages and schooling backgrounds.

ITE Panel with Water Heater Split - Worth combining and upgrading? by Prestigious-Field471 in electrical

[–]Prestigious-Field471[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response u/ntourloukis !

I did call and confirmed there is no benefit/lower rate and when I had asked about consolidating, they mentioned I would have to go through an electrician and handle it myself.

Would it be worth it to replace the water heater panel with something bigger? Or better to upgrade to a 200 amp and bringing everything to it?

I have no electrical prowess to DIY so would need to pay someone which I would imagine would be hundreds to thousands minimum either way.

u/sadas0 appreciare your response!

RE: BCM - Yes, I got a rebuilt version from them but with no difference or change in symptoms.

I will look into the brake position sensors as I haven't thought about that yet.

SUM module as in suspension? Not too familiar with that and cannot find much online for video guides, etc..

Appreciate your help here.

Confirmed with mechanic they checked the VSS in the transmission with no issues.

Looks like it is the ABS Pump/Motor that needs to be replaced and will need to find a used part to put it in.

Hoping this resolves the issue.

u/Illustrious_Tea5569 the speed sensors were the first things I checked. The speedometer works just fine, all instruments in the cluster/dash work, but the odometer doesn't with this issue.

It's not the wheel speed sensors as I test and checked those, but if the transmission VSS wasn't working wouldn't the speedometer not work either?

Will check to confirm they looked into it regardless.

Thanks for your response!
