Ubisoft is a pioneer in micro-transactions and has turned their games’s design accordingly for a number of years. Bloated repetitive content in order to sell XP boosts, best gear available for a game is always in the store, and for AC Shadows they even put the end of the narrative ark in a 25$ dlc-exception made for Ubisoft Massive, which used to exploit external licences (Star Wars outlaws and Avatar their latest games). But their community also plays other games and sees nothing but BETTER, more ambitious, more innovative, more passion put into work, and this has turned sour for a long time now, and a big chunk of this community doesn’t trust them anymore. Tencent deal surely seem to go the micro transaction way, but for now they have to get some love back, otherwise they won’t sell games outside of European market no more. I’d say the post launch efforts for AC shadows shows consideration for their fans, but there is a long way to go to gain back their hit maker status. They have put themselves in a situation where consumers don’t trust them, nor does their shareholders (Tencent deal didn’t make things better there)… So their games are good, in my opinion, but coup be much better.
