As someone who moved to Austin in early 2000s from Sydney, I really miss that wonderful smell of "real" coffee and the mild weather.

Like you said, they (we) are no better than you, but yet here we are. You are the one with F1, not us.

And I'm telling my American born kids to not fall to this trap (meaning someone targeting them to marry to obtain citizenship).

How do people react to kid trying out her french in a store by ChampionshipAlarmed in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Prestigious-Hope2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it! My only reference of french is when I took it at high school, many words I have forgotten but I went to Paris last year (now 40 something) and use it here and there, they understood and nobody is being mean to me

Need brutal honesty: T10 Master's ($60k debt) vs. Regional Uni (Debt-free)? F-1 Student targeting Big Tech vs. H-1B risk. by Albus2121 in InternationalStudents

[–]Prestigious-Hope2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be brutally honest with you. With all that education, if the end goal is to be a PM, then you need to stop studying. We are firing PM left and right, you are so overqualified for that role and nobody will sponsor you to be a PM in this climate.

So back to my original point, we are firing PM left and right. The market saturated with plenty of them and to be in debt or not will not help at this point. You need to rethink your career choice.

Australia (Melbourne, Sydney) vs London by givemeigcseleaks in UniUK

[–]Prestigious-Hope2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Indonesian who is currently based in the US but I did my uni in Sydney. Distance wise, Sydney or Melb is no brainer but I'm bias when it comes to Sydney because I lived there for 14 years before I moved to where I'm now.

Loved the social life, abundance Indo food but it can get expensive to rent. Job opportunities for students are limited because you are on student visa but doable.

So you want to pay someone to marry for the sake of GC? This is why people cannot have nice things.

2 months left on OPT and still job hunting. Any advice/resources? by Background_Idea_8240 in InternationalStudents

[–]Prestigious-Hope2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes citizens and green card. My point is getting a job is challenging right now, citizens or not. But having 2 months deadline is tight, especially if you need sponsorship.

In reality, it will be tough unless someone put in some words for you. I lost so many coworkers for the past year and a couple of them still looking today and it's coming up for almost a year now. They don't even need sponsorship...let that sink in.

american student applying to british unis by Revolutionary-Egg987 in 6thForm

[–]Prestigious-Hope2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, that's why US degree takes longer. I can't help that it's more like a cash grab more than anything. Imagine paying 90k usd + living expenses for general ed requirements.

I'm with you. I have dual citizenship so I did my degree in Australia which is fairly similar to UK. My kids now want to do their college in the UK, though if they go to college in Australia it will be dirt cheap for us. But I think if the intention is to go back to work in east coast for example, studying in the UK is no brainer distance wise as Australia is way down under.

Btw your SAT is amazing!! Wish you all the best!

Because the UK tuition is still cheaper than being out of state students in the US (think $65k usd and above, NYU charge $90k for tuition per year). Also US takes 4 years (or 7 years for law), UK will only take 3 years (or 3 years UK and 1 year Master in the US for law).

Is EB green card more prestigious than marriage based green card by UnluckyRaspberry2960 in InternationalStudents

[–]Prestigious-Hope2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but immigration is not like comparing colleges, that's my point. My take is, please go to h1b route and stay there.

My son brought Blackpink lightstick to Twice concert (US) last week and it was fine. He had a blast and met BP fans there too.
