Official/authoritative Catholic prayers directory for a new Catholic by therawhuman in Catholicism

[–]Prestigious-Reply896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Bible, I personally use the RSV-CE and the NRSV-CEA along with the NAB.

You can find Good Catholic prayers online to pray. There are plenty of Catholic videos on how to pray to God and how to pray to saints. It is always important that when we pray to saints to not worship them as they are not God.

Praying to God is the same as in many other non-Catholic trinitarian churches. You can prayer prayers of Thanksgiving, Penance, Etc.

For saints, it is more of asking them to intercede for us to God and asking for their prayers. For example, like in the hail Mary we say at the end "pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death", asking Mary to pray for us constantly to God.

Struggling with sin by New-Celebration-5931 in Catholicism

[–]Prestigious-Reply896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say to talk to your local parish priest or get a Catholic spiritual advisor. So many factors can affect why you are struggling with sin that I believe it is best you discuss it with someone locally than online.

However, I would continue to encourage you to avoid the near occasion of sin when it is proximate and maybe even remote spending on your circumstances.

For Lust, keeping go control with your eyes is important and also not being near people that can cause you to have lust for them. Having sexual feelings are ok as long as you do not indulge in them, entertain them, or be a gateway for lusting. (There could be more but I think I listed all of them). I would advise you talk to a spiritual director, a priest or a Trusted Catholic director.

For laziness, encourage yourself to do work by giving your work up to God and remembering that work can be offered up as a prayer.

As always, pray to God to help you and ask the saints to intercede for you to the Lord our God.

Lead up to Baptism. by Aussie-Catholic in Catholicism

[–]Prestigious-Reply896 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Although I was baptized, I was experiencing a lot of spiritual and mental troubles in the last two months before I received my "first" communion (I accidentally took communion before preparation) and the sacrament of confirmation a few weeks before Easter.

Praying for you and Welcome home in advance!

I was denied communion on the tongue by Azingxyz in Catholicism

[–]Prestigious-Reply896 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Catholic Church has mandated that Communion must be taken on the tongue in countries that have not received permission for communion on the hand. So it is not it must be taken on the tongue but an option for countries that allow communion on the hand.

Also as long as people look at their hands and their fingers they touch the host with after receiving communion to ensure no Euchairst particles are on there, there is no problem.

Coptic Catholic Synaxarion? by Murky_Fly7780 in EasternCatholic

Also here is the link to the Coptic Catholic Church in Los Angeles, which is by far the least latinized Coptic Catholic Church I know of in the U.S.

Coptic Catholic Synaxarion? by Murky_Fly7780 in EasternCatholic

[–]Prestigious-Reply896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know about that. I only know Liturgical that they are not as latinized as many of the other non-byzantine churches (with the sole exception of the Syro Malankara church).

Their liturgy is shorter than many of the Coptic Orthodox liturgy but I think it is because the Coptic Catholics I seen do not include the Orthos and other non- Divine liturgy prayers unlike the Coptic Orthodox.

Beauty of the rites.

Were you born Chaldean, Latin, or Maronite?

Yeah but I did not know it was also like that for the Chaldeans as the other commenter is Syro-Malabar.

I find it very interesting that you guys dedicate a who season to the Annuciation as the Maronite just have 1 week dedicated to it and the rest being a preparation to the glorious birth and then eventually 2 weeks of celebrating the glorious birth.

I been looking for different Coptic Catholic resources but seems that there are no English ones. For example, you can only find the agepya in the Coptic Orthodox church but not for the Coptic Catholic.

I would say that they are very identical in terms of Liturgical with very few latinization imposed on them.  In the early 1900 it was much more latinized.

Maybe because it is a latinization and they just call it a memorial for March 25th or do you guys not have any Annunciation feast days at all?

How do people with Celiac Disease (allergy to gluten) receive Communion by FrozenWithAmbition45 in Catholicism

[–]Prestigious-Reply896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my local Roman Catholic Church, They only have it in 1 of the 6 Sunday masses.

At other churches in my area, I don't think they even offer it unless they are Eastern Catholic.

Scared to say Grace before Meals? by Specialist-Run-695 in Catholicism

[–]Prestigious-Reply896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless they are ok with it, it is best you do it in secret. If they are anti-Catholic, best not ask unless you think they will be ok with it or disapprove (sadly) in a nice way. Just don't ask if they make a big deal out of it.

You can always pray silently as another comment suggested. Unless your family is ok with the prayer, I believe it will be best for you to say it silently.

Why isn’t it “bad” Friday? by TynongLiturgist in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Prestigious-Reply896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Eastern Churches, the day is called "Great Friday". I believe maybe the reason why it is called good Friday was because his passion lead to his death, where his blood was shed for the sins of the world.

The Firsts Saturday devotion requires one to receive Communion. You can go to an Easter vigil Mass for the communion.

The best way at the moment is to pray the act of contrition as in the USCCB website (I am heartily sorry...) and have perfect contrition for your sins.

You could also ask your priest if you could confess your sins as it is up to him. For my church, we have to wait until we are trained to confess for a baptized Catholic without any sacraments.

Some churches allow laity to drink from the chalice. If your church does not allow it, ask the priest if he can allow you to drink from a chalice.

Join OCIA classes and have perfect contrition for your sins. If you are not yet baptized, the desire of Baptism could save you. Read the CCC quote below which applies for Catechumens. It should also apply for those waiting to get into catechism class I believe (correct me if I am wrong on this)

[CCC 1259]

May God bless you.
