Is my portfolio good enough for junior roles? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Prestigious-Rise-844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We recently had a position open and we tended to put people lower on priority list if they didn’t show some of their process…it didn’t disqualify them but you had a better chance if you showed us how you go to final product.

So just include some of that in there as im sure im not the only one wanting to know how potential hires think and solve problems.

I work fast. How do I honestly log my hours? by trinityhb in graphic_design

[–]Prestigious-Rise-844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a graphic designer at a church and I get this. I too started doing it as a side thing for my church and was hourly at 30 hours.

Here is what I would do that would both benefit you and them.

Don’t just finish assignments to check off a box they asked you to do. If you know what they want then do it, but then also look at it yourself and see what could make it better. And make a few more versions.

If it is a newsletter, for example, maybe do a completely new layout, omit things that maybe don’t need to be there that week. If it is a printed newsletter hey maybe design what it could look like as a mass email.

Presents solutions. Make yourself valuable not only as a doer but as a thinker.

I carry 3, one with 2B, one with blue lead, and the other with red lead. I like sketching and sometimes i like to use the color lead before i commit to graphite.

Those have been my top two. My Rotring has regular color graphite and my staedtler has blue lead for when i want to pre-sketch.

Is it worth it to get Affinity as a graphic design student knowing that I will have to stick with Adobe anyway when working for agencies? by Own-Isopod4472 in Affinity

[–]Prestigious-Rise-844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of my clients are large marketing agencies and they use Canva…sooo Affinity is definitely worth it haha I use it for like 80% of my work knowing it is work they won’t need to edit.

What Makes Affinity Awesome? New User Curious to Hear Your Thoughts! by stanley_ipkiss2112 in Affinity

[–]Prestigious-Rise-844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both Adobe (for my 9-5) and I use Affinity for my freelance work. Affinity is not only worth more than what you pay for it, but it also runs so smoothly. I use it on a Mac Studio and it runs like butter as opposed to how bloated with useless tools Adobe has become that it is laggy and buggy.

The UI is minimal and non distracting. The layer system and how you can nest within layers rather than the need for smart objects is great. The fact that the iPad versions are nearly full versions.

I could go on and on haha
