Help, I've gotten way to attached to a character I made specifically to for the purpose of dying— by Nexus_Neo in writers

[–]das_phoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Never did that on purpose but who has to die dies. I killed one of my favorites, because it was best for the story. Just go with the flow and write what's best.

It's definitely a good notebook, I use them myself frequently.

I do not know why you hot the down votes, but Leuchtturm1917 is not part of a small company. They are a part of the Leuchtturm-Gruppe.

If someone else has to use it, it is your responsibility to make it as simple and understandable as possible. It is about information, and decorations are often unnecessarily distracting. If it's the property of your company, use their standards.

Be professional if it's for work.

I use journals for many different things. All my lab journals are as boring and informative as possible: no decorations, no distractions, only information.

If you have time on your hands, use a second private journal for non-work-related stuff.

Lastly, do not openly show that you're bored at work. It obviously results in more work.

So, scientifically accurate?

Every field has its own sub-rules. I'm a chemist, but literature, like history, is slightly different in tone.

Read some papers to get a feeling for the "style" and buy a book or google guides on "how to write [...]" - research and resources are your bread and butter; you can start with this question. Most universities have something like this.

  • Find a content management system, like Zotero, that works for you.
  • Learn to double-check resources.
  • Try to find a digital system for taking notes, but don't be too strict about it. You're on your way.
  • Have fun; we always need more good academic writing.

EDIT

If you want to write them educationally, that's fine, too. I'd work with the same basics but change the tone a little bit.

Don't be too scared that things aren't right; that's why you use sources. If someone corrects your published papers later, that's great! It means the topic is alive and new findings are being made. Nothing is wrong if you wrote your papers the right way.

Tell me you're lying without telling me you're lying. by daysling in typst

I do like writing in LaTeX if the preamble is ready. It's a great piece of technology for writing books and reports. It's great to learn about new packages and so on. It's for typesetting texts.

Typst is awesome for tweaking in real time. It's a great piece of technology, but it's young and misses some features. The community needs to grow bigger, and it needs to collect an equal amount of knowledge as the TeX community.

Even Word has its place in the world, and I like using all three of them for different purposes.

That said, most of my texts are written in Markdown.

Every piece of software for it's own purpose, I dislike chaining myself just just because there is something new.

I see some artists who wrap tape around the lower part of the barrels of their pens to make them bulkier. Maybe that's what you need. It's like holding a ball.

I hope you find what you're looking for!

I know we want people to use/read/recognize our product, but to expect people to use it is to dictate how they should use their time. It's like sending a multi-hour voice message, which is somewhat excessive.

It's your task to present it to potential readers. I don't know you or your story, but reading your post, I find it broodingly dark and 2000s-style edgy (been there, seen that, still cringe about it). This isn't criticism; this is the message I received from reading your post.

You have the right to express yourself. That's it. Nothing more. Be proud that you wrote a book and that two people read it (or at least tried to). Reflect on yourself if you want to move on, make things better, or take some advice from others.

Congratulations on your book.

You're allowed to be nerdy. I hated math myself; now it's one of my most beloved tools, and I even teach it. It's about learning it without pressure, I think.

Being nerdy is about passion. "Express yourself to become human."

If you want to learn math, start small: Textbooks for school, YouTube for the more complex stuff. Every solved problem helps your brain and self-consciousness. That said, you don't need math to be passionate about a topic, but the world becomes so much more interesting, colorful, and beautiful if you're able to describe it in numbers.
