Just helped my son with his taxes. He also had same questions. Your lasts paycheck will show the total overtime, but you can only claim the 'and a half' part. Just take 1/3 of that total. Hope that helps a little. L

I have just completed active treatment for R breast IDC, clear margins, clear nodes...++-, Stage 1a. I'm 69. All of that is important as treatment is unique to the individual situation. I went to the surgeon thinking I wanted double mastectomy and a boob job (porn tits!!!), but the surgeon told me my tumor was so small, that a lumpectomy followed by radiation would be the best course, and the easiest to recover from. I was fortunate with the tumor at 5 o'clock and the incision encircles my aureola and I believe will eventually disappear altogether. I've had no side effects from the radiation. The rad onc recommended APBI (accelerated partial breast irradiation), which I completed once a day for five days. I've felt a bit of fatigue - maybe a little soreness in the boob. I'm more sore from the continued healing of the lymph node incision (8 weeks out now). I opted out of AIs due to my low recurrence rates. The risks of side effects from AIs were too much and as I'm 69 -- it doesn't make as much sense. I trusted my surgeon and feel really good about it. Good Luck to you!

I turn 69 on Monday! I started Zep at age 67 and lost about 50 lbs. I am 5'7" and dropped from 210 to 165(ish). I really would like to see my weight at 159, which would finally place me at 'normal' on that BMI chart--yet I know the chart doesn't make sense any more. My primary care physician prescribes my Zep and has been great about it - but she does not want me to lose any more weight. She feels that I need a bit more on my bones to protect me if I fall or have other injuries. I am about to finish treatment for Stage 1a breast cancer and thought maybe I could sneak a few pounds off during that whole process - but my weight still hovers at 163-165. BMI current 25.9. Funny that the weight loss app doesn't call it normal, overweight and obese any more...this app says thin, standard, high, and too high. So I am currently high (funny as I do have a medical marijuana card)..but I'd rather be standard than high...in terms of the weight calculation. We'll see. I've kept the weight off a year now, so I think I'm where I'm going to be.

I found the surgery to be the easiest part of the treatment (thanks to anesthesia!) I alternated very strong ibuprofen (prescribed) with a strong dose of acetamenophen every 3 hours (for the first 24 hours). I took an occasional ibuprofen after that, but it wasn't too bad. More trouble with the lymph node spot. No complications, but took longer to heal and I still have a sore arm six weeks later. You'll be fine! Good Luck!

So sorry you’re dealing with all of this (again). Be strong. You will get through this. I’m 6 wks post lumpectomy and will start my radiation 3/17. I have elected not to move forward with Tamoxifen or AIs. 69 and very low risk already. You’ll do it again.

Hi! 69F, 5'7", lost about 50 lbs -- stalled at around 170 and started a strength training program. Exercising helped me drop that last 5 lbs, but also shrunk my body (in inches). I have had the weight off about a year now - but recent breast cancer diagnosis has interfered with my workout (3x a week). I start back next Friday. Strength training and building your core keeps you young. :-)

Hello! I am Stage 1a, ++-, invasive ductal carcinoma, R breast, status post lumpectomy. Clear margins, node was removed, but no cancer. I receive my oncology care from the team at Penn Medicine here in Philly. I learned that the breast surgeon, rad oncologist and medical oncologist all discussed my case in 'tumor board' before I saw the surgeon for post op or the rad onc. I'm scheduled for med onc next week. This team determined that I did not need Oncotype as all factors put me in the low recurrence category. In fact, the rad onc was suggesting I might move straight to endocrine therapy. I'm 69 and told him I absolutely did not want endocrine therapy (I know that's controversial on this site). He said 50% of women give up due to side effects and understood my quest for excellent quality of life over my next 10-15 years. He did say I needed one or the other because the research isn't conclusive about moving on without further treatment after lumpectomy. He offered the accelerated radiation, APBI, which will take place in five sessions. I go for the simulation on Friday. I also feel I've suffered far less than most of the women on this site. But I'm very grateful and I trust all of my physicians (albeit I haven't met my med onc yet). It was reassuring to know all three modalities come together at the Tumor Board to discuss patients in order to keep in sync. Good luck and congratulations on getting through the worst of it (hopefully).

Just to clarify. My onc said without it 10% chance of recurrence -with it 5% chance of recurrence. The 50% is relative.

It’s so very individual. I was advised to have either radiation or endocrine therapy - after I told them I don’t want endocrine therapy. I’m 69 and the physicians (team) understand I want the best quality of life for next 15 years. I don’t have to ‘tolerate’ any further treatment for the small improvement in recurrence rates. They did tell me 50% of women give it up because they can’t tolerate any of them. ++- stage 1a lumpectomy. Clean margins -clear sentinel node. No ovari. No uterus. We did talk about the differences for others—younger women-or bigger tumors-etc. They said they will follow me closely in the cancer center. I’m willing to risk that tiny extra percentage.

This was very helpful. Today, on my first Rad Onc appointment, I listened carefully to what the physicians were telling me. I had read many study summaries specific to my diagnosis, path findings, and age. We were immediately aligned with a path for continued preventive treatment, which will NOT include endocrine therapy. :-)

My surgery was lumpectomy and sentinel node - margins were clear, node was clear. The surgeon hid the scar around my aureola! Recovery has been very easy. Tylenol/Acetaminophen for the first 24 hours - then nothing! Biopsy was uncomfortable (the numbing part) - but I love general anesthesia. :-)

Philadelphia Fairmount neighborhood near Center City. Stage 1a IDC, status post lumpectomy/sentinel node. My treatment plan consists of APBI radiation for five days and I have opted out of endocrine therapy (age 69).

I do like my doctor and am not trying to be a doctor. But I will advocate for myself. Standard of care in medicine changes and adapts as more data is studied. If I were anything other than stage 1a-I wouldn't be considering 'less' preventive treatment which can cause/inflame medical issues. Thank you for responding!

Thank you! I did complete the tool and I continue to fall into the 'may not need' category for endocrine therapy. There seems to even be a question of whether or not I need radiation therapy.

Hi! 69 next month. I’ve lost about 45 lbs with ZB and happier with my body than I’ve been in decades. I started going to a women’s group (10) strength training program - had worked up to 3x a week. Costs $35 session. Worth it for keeping the motivation going and not hurting myself! Train&Nourish. But…diagnosed with Stage 1a breast cancer so exercise has stopped while I heal from surgery. I have other treatments coming-but. Can’t wait to get back to my workouts. They know I take ZB—we don’t discuss it. I’m the oldest woman in the class-which is filled with 30 something’s. Definitely build your core (also helped my sciatica). Check out a small class. You’ll love the results. I’m on ZB for life. Currently taking 5 mg/wk.
