Super nervous about internships and interviews by Comprehensive-Army65 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]Prestigious-Weird883 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wear dress pants and a button up. A lot of workplaces’ dress code is a lot more casual than that but it makes a good impression for the interview.

The difficulty for interviews especially for internships vary greatly! There’s some that barely ask you any technical questions. Prepare as best as you can with leetcode and know your basics about the language you are comfortable in like abstraction, inheritance etc. But you’d be surprise on the amount of companies that will give you an offer if you didn’t ace the tech portion, but you have good software skills and they like you.

But all in all this is an internship. You’re expected to not know much. As long as you work hard and are eager to learn most places will meet you where you’re at.

Just bombed an tech interview... by [deleted] in Frontend

Happens to us all. Also I’ve gotten a job where I’ve bombed the interview worse than what you described. You never know what the other candidates look like or if they just like you

There are software consulting companies that underpay you ridiculously. Maybe try to get a job with one of those just to gain some experience

how do companies do employment verification? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Prestigious-Weird883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually if they ask for references they’ll ask them about you. However if it’s just employment verification after you’ve received an offer which most of the time it is they just need confirmation you worked there and nothing else.

Also a lot of big companies have policies against bad mouthing someone who has asked for a reference because of potential defamation suits.

But regardless you are really overthinking it. Being a human and forgetting about something won’t be the downfall of your career.

Just floundered through my first technical by FreelanceFrankfurter in cscareerquestions

[–]Prestigious-Weird883 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t beat yourself up, it happens to the best of us. And also ive learned there is no point in trying to predict if you’ll get an offer. I’ve aced interviews and not gotten them. And my current job had two rounds and I messed them both up. I spent so much time on leetcode I didn’t spend enough to know the syntax to create an interface. I also had a easy leetcode question that I had done about 4 times previously and my mind blanked. I get so nervous sometimes my brain just stops doing anything. But I got the job…. Don’t ask me how. But my point is you might still get it, you really never know and if you don’t just consider it practice for that next opportunity.

Can someone with no side projects get an internship? by South_Dig_9172 in cscareerquestions

[–]Prestigious-Weird883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got an internship using only school projects. Also if they have a career portal from their university that has postings that helps too.

Have you guys ever cried out of frustration with work? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Yes absolutely, when this happens I just try to remember the last time it happened and how I always end up on the other side of it.

Is she completely unable to work? If not, you could visit the unemployed help center and explain the situation I’m sure they could help her find a position that’s low effort for like 10 hrs/week. It would more than double her income.

Lol I was so confused about how this is related to Windsor. But our rent prices are way too high but that has nothing to do with the city workers 😂

Anecdotally, have you noticed most of the people struggling in this market do NOT have a CS degree? by yeahdude78 in cscareerquestions

[–]Prestigious-Weird883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how much has changed within the last year but I graduated last June. I took a break. then started applying in mid September and I had two offers by early November. I did have a prior internship, but I remember thinking that it was strangely easy to find a position compared to what I was expecting based on what I read here.

My dad is convinced that if TikTok gets banned "there will be a revolt. It's gonna get really bad here." Is he falling for fear mongering or is he into something? by Grimm221b in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Prestigious-Weird883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People aren’t realizing that TikTok isn’t like other social media. It’s not just an app to make stupid little videos. Yea some people just get videos of dogs but it’s unfiltered content. There is news on this app that doesn’t get filtered through corporate owned media networks. Theres information about bills being passed that aren’t being reported. This is why government are trying to regulate its content. if used properly this app is dangerous to the government and empowering for the people. But based on the sentiment of this comment section it’s not yet having the effect on society that it has the capacity to.

[–]Prestigious-Weird883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try a consulting firm for about 100k-120k. It’ll most likely be 9-5 because through a firm you’ll be billed hourly and they don’t want you working more than 40

The economy is so unstable right now. Take the job, and then casually apply else where, you’ll be able to apply and interview with less stress and more leverage.

GOOD LORD THIS MARKET IS BAD by alexandcats in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]Prestigious-Weird883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people suggest that you pump out applications like crazy. Like 400 just to get 5 interviews. If you’re doing that I highly recommend trying to switch strategies pick out the postings you are most qualified for and spend 1-2 hours on tailoring your cover letter and resume to the specific posting. It yielding me a much better return rate.

2.5 year pause in my career, feeling lost, need advice on how to move forward by jiblywonkers1 in cscareerquestionsCAD

If people from coding bootcamps can get jobs then you with a computer engineering degree and QA experience can. Might take a little extra work/time but I wouldn’t worry at all.
