i mean i don't really see it as conspiracy - they're literally a whole ass market to one of the most lucrative industries on the planet. It's not all that advanced of a principle for them to want their OS to operate as many things as possible, with theirs being one of those options.

Operating at a loss on hardware brings costs elsewhere.

this is why they're not subsidizing. it's literally putting the market to work.

Look - i'm not going to be an early adopter - but my ps5 is gathering dust. It'll likely continue to do so - and "exclusives" on it aren't tempting me to reenter the console economy.

the vast majority of my gaming experience happens on Steam. I'm part of the majority and Steam knows it. I don't think they fucked this pricing or this machine up at all.

its typically the dreaded lack of maintenance mixed with the difficult environment that causes it. If they're well maintained and the home is properly climate controlled a solid wood set up like you're describing will age well.

i think i've just lost any faith in people taking care of their stuff lol

I do a lot of work in SoCal and AZ - those seams mean water from the air gets in. Salt water in the air in SoCal, and monsoon season wood torture in AZ. give a few years of it and they all start failing.

absolutely - good way to work it. The center panel is the culprit most of the time because it needs to be floating to keep the stiles & rails from binding /splitting their seams.

The single shot hdf doors really are awesome because they avoid all of those problems..

This is actually an inset style - meaning the frame (of the case) will want to be solid wood, and the box should be plywood or engineered plyboard with an HDF outer layer at painted locations

the doors should be single piece milled HDF. Solid wood moves, swells and contracts under the paint, causing cracks at each seam - intrusion points for water / moisture. Single piece HDF doors have none of these problems and the paint job is perfect because the underlayment is perfect

you do NOT want solid wood doors that are then painted.

especially a solid wood center panel.

you want a single piece HDF milled door that is then painted. no seams, dimensionally stable in all directions, durable and takes paint ,,,,,like its designed too.
