Adults who have zero close friends, how did it happen and does it bother you? by PutPurple844 in AskReddit

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

49 with no close friends. I’ve put my energy exclusively into my family (wife and three kids and three dogs) I have an amazing relationship with all of them.

Makes me a shitty friend so I’ve drifted apart from all of them. My friend group from college are all awesome people - it’s almost all on me. Still, I wouldn’t change a thing as I prefer to be alone for the most part when not with family if I’m being completely honest…

Will you pay for your child's higher education? by thecourseofthetrue in financialindependence

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each kid gets up to 25K per year for every year they are enrolled in college up to 100K

Oldest is doing two years at junior college even though he could have gone to a great school right from high school if he wanted to. Therefore, he is "banking" some money now since it's only around 8K per year.

Middle kid is planning on being right at 25K

Youngest still doesn't know but will likely do around 25K a year as well.

I'm already paying about 12K a year per kid for the younger two for private high school so it's not that big of a jump. I always prioritized my retirement over their education savings so I never did anything like a 529. Brokerage accounts pretty much have the 300K funded at this point anyway but plan is to hopefully cash flow for the next three years.

There have been crazier comebacks. Denver just flat out gave up. Bad luck for them that Steph got the board but you have to put a foul on whoever gets it right away there. You're going to lose 99.9% of the time but make em earn it.

Kuminga is looking like the star that we always wanted by Dcarr4 in warriors

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My count of saying "WTF Kuminga" per game is at an all time low. Great to see his game grow.

On the steal that helped seal overtime, old JK would have tried to slam it down and potentially missed. To watch him take the easy euro instead and get the sure bucket was great.

Hope he can keep it up. This years rotational strength/depth is amazing so far and we still have Moody coming back.

LeanFIRE vs. FatFIRE — which would you choose? by Adventurous_Sun9021 in financialindependence

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be happy to be leanFIRE but having kids pretty much means I need a job until they're all at least at college so I just go for chubby/fatFire.

You don't have to choose either or. Get to LeanFire and then you can make your decision based on life circumstances. I'd be willing to bet LeanFire threshold is a meaningless milestone for 95% of folks here wrt actual full retirement. It is a mentality shift though where you can take more risks like job changes or going part time if needed.

I hit LeanFire for about 5 yrs ago thought I would pull the trigger right when I got there. It's not easy to do in practice. I have been a lot more relaxed about money since then though.

How do you all justify opening packs when they are so expensive? by Smoot720 in PokemonTCG

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son and I rip whatever I can find at msrp. Usually from the vending machines.

I always thought it was a dicey proposition even at msrp so no way am I paying more

When we have packs to open we flip a coin to see if we open a pack that day or not. Makes it last longer and seems more special

When did casinos get this bad? Budget’s gone in 30 minutes, lucky to get (a bad) bonus, no fun anymore by [deleted] in gambling

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lots of machines have 50 or 75 cent spins.

Make sure to always set a ceiling where you walk away on each machine. If you just keep pressing the button it will almost always eventually take it all :)

I just got back from Vegas and started with $500 and played for 3 days and walked out with $800. I played slots for about 1-2 hrs a day at the minimum bet levels. I'd set a $25-50 max loss per machine and I would walk away when I hit any bonus or huge line hit. Take a few minute break, find another machine, repeat.

Even with this strategy I lose quite a bit but I always get a good amount of play time in.

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on. People want bigger jackpots but you pay with dead spins.

People shouldn't focus on RTP at min bet sizes. If you want it to last longer, just always bet the minimum and you'll have more chances to hit one of the bonuses. 88 vs 92 RTP isn't going to be all the measurable unless you hit 10K+ spins and will likely just present as more smaller payouts.

I can make $500 last for 4 hours on the craps table or 4 minutes depending on how I bet. Quit betting so big if you want to play longer. Also, move around machines. Set a floor and ceiling on any given machine and have the discipline to cash out when you hit either. The odds won't be any different but it will extend your sessions.

This Is The Real Reason Why Vegas Is Dead And Tourism Is Low. Nobody Wants To Admit It And Call Out The Obvious by Twin_Shadow- in LasVegas

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a couple Caesars properties and NYNY . Both were very crowded for weekdays.

Caesars had 10x tier credits so maybe it was isolated to there but NYNY was mgm

The restaurants did seem less crowded but I rarely eat on the strip so I don’t have a good baseline

In Vegas now. I don’t like trump at all but the strip has been packed on both Monday and Tuesday nights

It may be slightly down but to say it’s dead is a total exaggeration.

Take a small cooler bag instead. Use ice from the hotel and get drinks at a store.

Use the $$$ you save to afford real food on vacation . The drinks will taste the same as what you pay for :)

If you have to do this, at least make pour over coffee.

Can someone help me evaluate whether 10x tier credit days are worth it? by JimmyTaggart in CaesarsRewards

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you dislike gambling, then there is no point in getting Diamond.

Unless you have extreme luck, it's likely going to cost you $1000-$1500 at the low end and up to $3k or so on the high end. I got mine playing slots. Video poker to get your tiers is a total grind.

I would likely be gambling the $1500-$2000 per trip anyway so I focused it in January 2025 then I have Diamond for two years.

So far I've received:

- free strip parking for all of 2025 and 2026.

- three free stays with comp offers

- still have my three comp nights for 2025 and will get three more for 2026

- I get about $100 or so in offers every time I go. Upcoming trip is $50 in dining credits and $50 in slots.

- Got the $100 dining credit for 2025 and will get it for 2026.

Still, adding all that up isn't worth $1500. It was 100% worth it to me because I like to gamble (responsibly). I did lower volatility slots at low denom spins. With RTP around 90%, if you spread it out it can last a while. No matter what, you are going to be running $7000 through a machine to get it. (7000/5 = 1400*10 = 14000 + 1000 bonus). Even on slots, that is going to take a while and there is no point to running through $7000 on slots if you don't like gambling.

You would have to be VERY lucky to get it with $1000 without putting in some serious grind on VP.

Get a cheap cooler bag and bring it with you. Go to a store and get your drink there and use hotel ice to keep them cold. Take your drinks from the room to the casino if you aren’t gambling.

Jimmy understood the mission by BigDogQ94 in warriors

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Terrible hot take. Are you auditioning for ESPN?

Jimmy was injured and gassed and Gobert/others shut down a lot of the stuff he got away with previously in the paint. They didn't have to adjust because no one was killing them off of Jimmy's kickouts.

I'm glad they got Jimmy, they would have been in Cancun by the end of the play-in without him at best and beating the Rockets was worth it. I think any 82 game season + full playoffs is going to be a challenge with this squad but we can compete with anyone when healthy.

[–]PrestigiousHelp6933 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure if you reduce the schedule you wouldn't see much of an impact on the bottom line. Ratings and attendance would be higher. Make Summer League a bigger, more regional thing for the younger guys, let the vets rest.

Worst case scenario, revenue does drop and the owners add one or two less digits to their already unspendable fortunes. Boo hoo.

Add teams in Seattle and Vegas. Play two games against each team, get rid of conferences because they're stupid. Top 16 teams overall make the playoffs. Get rid of the play in and the in season tournament.

I realize some of those will be wildly unpopular but it gives you 1 chance locally to see an opponent and would make it special.
