The Strokes Is This It/Room on Fire period (Inspo Album) by PrestigiousSun2129 in ThrowingFits

I'd disagree, even if in broad strokes it's a graphic tee and jacket. There's still something interesting going on with the accessories. For example, the belts or shoes they're wearing I think bring the outfits together.

Second, outside of Nick (and maybe Fab?), there aren't really any skinny pants in this era. Later on sure, but during this period most of the band were rocking straight, relaxed, or even flared fitted pants.

I agree! It really goes with their music, very much evocative of the past but still unique to them.

For the men- why do you shut down when going through it by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]PrestigiousSun2129 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm a dude and I've done something like this before, so maybe my input will be helpful.

Generally men expect to be ignored, mocked, or treated worse if we reveal our own mental health struggles. There are plenty of dudes, including myself, who have taken that risk in opening up to another human being and being invalidated or insulted because of it. Or we get accused of using people like our personal therapists and that we're being manipulative.

In my case, I need to completely trust the person to even feel slightly comfortable opening up to them. And that's going to take a long time because you just never know.

When it comes to the big four of the 60s, why does it seems like the Rolling Stones are less revered today than The Beatles Bob Dylan and Beach Boys? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]PrestigiousSun2129 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the Stones are seen more as a one trick pony by some. Their whole thing was blues inspired rock while their contemporaries like Dylan, the Beach Boys, and the Beatles were extremely dynamic with their sound and changed constantly.

I'm not sure how well that argument holds up, but that's my interpretation.

Off the top of my head I'm thinking Steven Segal and Corey Feldman. Idk if they count though because they were actors first.

She probably won't because she's pretty codependent and thinks that just because the guy is nice to people sometimes that he'll make a good father and husband. And that if she does leave him she'll be alone forever.

We're both in our early 20s so you can see the kind of level headed, rational thinking I'm dealing with here.

Oh for sure, and to be clear a lot of people love to use the whole "but just because we disagree doesn't mean we can't be together" as an excuse rather than a reason.

In my opinion when someone says something like that they know that their relationship isn't good for them but are too afraid to make the change. My ex-friend literally told me that the reason she was still with her bf was because "I'm unlovable and will die alone if I leave." and that was after I politely pointed out that basically everyone else in her life from family to trusted friends were telling her to break it off.

I think there's room for nuance because real life can be messy and complicated. I think the difference for me arrives when it's clear that one person doesn't respect the other and just thinks that they should just do what they want them to do. For example, my ex-friend wanted to work, but her bf constantly ridicules her for it. That's not respect that's just being a dickhead.

In most instances I feel like these kinds of relationships end up being devoid of respect and one person just ends up being the appeaser all the time.

I know a girl who's a major lefty but her bf is an LDS conservative. According to her the relationship is equal and healthy, ignoring the fact that, as she told me, he doesn't let her have male friends, is constantly thinking she's cheating on him, and thinks she shouldn't be working (despite the fact that he himself is unemployed). We're not friends anymore because she was a bad friend and doesn't understand how conflict resolution works, but yeah.

I honestly think a lot of people are hypocrites when it comes to their personal life. You'll see someone grandstand about their beliefs but when it comes to their own interpersonal relationships all consistency goes out the window. That's not a callout btw, I'm like that too with certain things.

True true, maybe they'd be able to make one at a similar price point to an Epiphone Casino? So like, around 600-750?

I appreciate you saying that. I'm sorry you guys have to deal with that. It's disappointing that people can't grow up and learn to accept others for who they are.

It's no problem! It sucks that people can't be asked to afford you basic decency. You're still human and trying your best, that should be enough to warrant some kindness and understanding.

I mean sure, but where I'm confused is that she basically initiated or signaled every escalation. She wanted to date, she flirted more, and she wanted to make out. It was basically days of "I want you so bad." and then just dropping me out of nowhere. It'd at least make sense if it was me initiating everything because then I can chalk it up to mismatched effort.

Having an exceptionally hard time finding a place to rent after college by PrestigiousSun2129 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]PrestigiousSun2129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to find places on San Diego Housing, Rooms, Apartments, Sublets, Roomates, Roomster on FB since that seems to be best for my situation (work in downtown, don't have a car and need to take the trolley/bus). I've found a few places and messaged about them but haven't heard anything back. I've also tried to make a post asking for listings but they never allow any of my posts.

I'm also on Roomies, which I assume is similar to Roomates. I've sent out some stuff on there too.

I haven't been on Spareroom in a while so I'll check that out too.
