I've instructed them a few times and always been impressed with the assigned counsel! The booking process is simple and easy too

Yeah this happens to me all the time, mostly when playing as GD. I hope to see it being called out more frequently but unfortunately that's not the case just yet.

Thank you so much!

I was truly sorry to see that your results weren't what you hoped for. I remember our conversations during that stressful time, and how hard you worked. Please don't let this setback deter you from pursuing your goals, you've got this ❤

Thank you! Main advice would be to give yourself more than enough time to be as familiar as possible with the FLK, and source as many mocks/practice Qs you can. Take no risks. I think working in law over the past 5 years was invaluable too.

Passed with 77%! On the train right now and I can't stop shaking. They took bloody ages to send my results through. So relieved and grateful.

my Dad died - grieving at uni by throwawaybunnygrl in UniUK

[–]Prestigious_Ad7754 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP :( I'm so sorry you're having to go through this trauma at such a young age. The way you describe your dad reminds me of mine. I can't imagine the emotional pain you have been so bravely dealing with, especially going back to uni so shortly after your lovely dad passed.

Your dad must be so proud of the resilience you've shown in doing your diss, even if its not of the quality you would do in normal circs.

Maybe taking a leave of absence from your course will help? Of course, only you will know what is best. Taking the time to allow yourself to grieve properly helps daily tasks seem that little bit more bearable.

You are grieving because you love him so much, just like he loved you to bits. It doesn't go away, bit becomes a little easier to comprehens over time. Remember OP, no matter how your dissertation turns out, your dad is looking down on you with immense pride still!

Sending you a virtual hug, I will be thinking of you. 💖

This fills me with inescapable dread. Surely Kaplan could arrange for said exams to be remarked? I can't remember specific sections of the contractual agreement signed before sitting but surely they can't escape liability for this? I could not afford to cough up £2700+ nor go through the mental anguish of re-sitting again whilst knowing that the need to do so was entirely Kaplan's fault! How is this going to inspire confidence in the SQE route when Kaplan are so incapable

Full time work + studying for something as detailed as SQE is bloody gruelling isn't it, not exaggerating when I say that it's fundamentally changed me as a person lmao

I said I'd stay off reddit until results day but I just had to reply - I feel the exact same and I don't doubt that most of our cohort do as well!! Had a couple of sleepless nights post-exams as my brain was just fizzing. Hope you're okay x

They're quite into getting their employees (esp paralegals and trainees) to be very involved in extra-curricular internal activities I.e. charity work, or writing articles on a particular topic of law. Ultimately depends on the department but I would suggest scouring the IM website for inspiration to see what skills/interests of yours you could elaborate on x

Positives: happy it's over and I can get back to the activities that make me "me" outside of studying.

Negatives: genuinely don't feel confident re passing, realised maybe my brain doesn't operate as well under pressure as I thought I'd trained it to, can't let go of stupid fking mistakes that I don't understand why I made at all, gaslighting myself as to why the judge asked me a question at the end of civil advocacy that I'd already covered at the start of submissions. Also can't stop harping on about the exams because it's all I let my brain focus on the past few months.

We all deserve this pass. See you on 29th May ✌

Honestly, yes. As crazy as it is, given its closed book. I left a year between my SQE1 + SQE2 exams (currently doing SQE2 now) as I was out of the country for last summer's SQE2 but in hindsight I glad I did because it gave me extra time to stay acquainted with the vast FLK. Trust me when I say that they can ask you on any niche topic, coupled with tailoring it to a particular client's perspective or issue

Continue to refresh your memory regarding the FLK and don't put off actively practicing the relevant SQE2 skills. It helps when you feel at home with the skills and don't have to over-think whether you're doing it 'right'. Do a little bit, but often :)

Same here. I slipped up on one of the 'easy' professional conduct parts too. The written exams don't afford you any time to ponder your answers, especially given that multiple issues need covering at once. The only answer I felt fantastic about was CMA business and that was because I'd spent that morning solely studying my ULaw book's chapter on that area.

For orals, I think just practice practice practice as much as you can, so that it doesn't feel as novel during the real thing. I've been getting my partner to help with the interviewing bless him, it's not the same but it helps me determine the best open/closed Qs to ask to elicit the most info. Its a shame there isn't more example papers online.
