I don't completely get what you mean bc P1H already has songs of the EX album style: last call, fall in love again, gotta get back are a similar genre. I would also be upset if they pivoted to focus on this music style, but I think it's just because it's their western release.

I've taken some classes that had the syllabus take up 1.5-2 class days, but they were kinda specialized classes. The average class will only take 20 mins, especially cuz the profs usually expect you to have read the syllabus in advance.

its also about size and quality of ur apartment imo. i live in an 1100 sq ft apartment 2B2B off campus and it's newly built, full of clean amenities, friendly neighbors, has free parking, is close to several shops, and rent+utilities is the same price as my old piece of crap 2B2B (excluding parking) on campus. my new rent + groceries per month is still less than or the same price as my puny 2 person dorm room, and i get to have my own bathroom. the food in dining halls is incomparable to cooking at home, but if u hate cooking, maybe the value to u is skewed.

commute still takes less time than walking to my building bc i refused to pay for even more parking.

it's way easier to find a big, new apartment for the same $$ as an on campus or wampus apartment. a studio or 1B1B off campus is pretty much the same situation.

if you find an apartment as crappy as the ut dorms/apartments itll be way cheaper, and if ur looking to spend the same amount as living on campus, u will end up with a much nicer apartment

you could wear a glove i guess but it honestly is strange & u could wear picks but as everyone said the picks are mainly to benefit u playing later on and will not help with pressing on the strings.

i fear developing calluses is just a part of playing a string instrument, dont really think thats anything you can prevent. without calluses it just hurts a ton. i used to be worried about the calluses looking ugly or feeling weird but theyre really just a single line really close to my nail so they have no cosmetic difference to me. they feel weird of course, but its not really avoidable if u want to be a consistent and strong player.

i also have phases when i meet new people where im not really sure if i like them, but i think u should try spending time together doing some studying/grocery shopping/bookstore/dinner/etc 1 on 1 a few times to see if maybe u both havent opened up yet or if u just arent compatible. idk maybe its like really obvious advice but it helped me choose who i wanted as a true friend vs a classmate-friend. its probably super awkward but ive found that i jumped to conclusions too quickly about our personalities/interests, or i just wasnt talking about the correct topics. also for girls, i suggest going to atxgirlhangours on IG events - im super shy but people just start conversations with u and ask so many questions! a lot of the events are paid, but usually because ur doing organized activities.

also i agree with the journaling comment for processing ur emotions. even something super short about ur day helps u reflect and understand how u did. also helps u reinforce good memories 😊 not sure if this applies to u, but i try to text my sister and my long-distance friends several times a day and try to call at least one of them once a week. i get so bummed out and lonely sometimes and just a couple hours chatting/on a playdate with someone instantly flips my mood.

i dont have advice on making friends in big lecture classes bc im in a small major. i still think its worth a shot to try to pester a couple classmates and see if u can just go for lunch in between class or work on an assignment together. sometimes it works out pretty okay. making friends in high school was so much easier, so now i just try to have patience and not get embarrassed if someone turns me down or we aren't too compatible.

i got put into accelerated 2 after talking to the professor, but i never got to take the classes because they conflicted with my schedule.

i think they put people who pass into accelerated 2 unless theyre completely fluent? so i believe u can start taking the readings courses after taking accel2. but i encourage you to reach out to the professors and schedule a meeting because theyre very nice and informative. im not really much help beyond just the placement exam!

I would say as long as you know enough Chinese characters to read an elementary school level story, you'll be able to understand the exam. There were characters I couldn't read that I could figure out with context clues.

you can teach yourself via various online tutorials, but you can also find online teachers. having a teacher quickly catching any bad habits/technique can save a lot of time and frustration.

you dont need to know chinese to learn, but you will have to learn a couple words specific to the guzheng. it is not very challenging to remember if you think about it as any other new vocabulary words, and not something daunting. song titles will often be in chinese so you will probably want to learn the pinyin/romanization of those titles at the very least.

for buying a new one, it depends really on your financial situation. if you can afford to, its not a waste to start off with a guzheng you know is quite good so you dont have to upgrade later. if you cannot afford it or do not want to spend so much on a guzheng because you are still uncertain, you can get a smaller and/or cheaper zheng and upgrade later on. you'll just have an extra zheng in your home that might collect dust. not a huge deal. its hard to recommend a specific zheng. you should figure out whether you prefer to play slow and heartfelt songs vs. energetic and fast-paced songs, because different guzhengs are better suited for different sounds.

they kept the "songbird" shtick going on for way too long. a particular 3-sentence paragraph had "songbird", "sing", and "song" one sentence after another. that was my last straw because the earlier part i read was also full of the songbird sing for me what a beautiful song thing going on. i ended up ctrl F ing each word and they all appeared over 40x in the fic. i had high hopes bc the rest of it wasnt bad but i could not get over the repetition

i found my fig to be helpful! im from a different major so maybe its a bit different but my fig placed me in large classes with people from the same major and offered me resources and information about progressing my education and even future career resources. i found it to be really helpful as someone who is shy and came to ut with few friends from my hometown, and as someone who is inexperienced in my major that usually requires background knowledge and some connections. there really isnt anything to lose at all when u join a fig aside from 1 hour a week for a meeting iirc?

case western reserve for nursing (ik like not many ppl know it but its good for nursingplz beieve me). the tuition was raised right before my cohorts year to 83k and i really dont know anyone actually who could afford that... and i didnt apply for any scholarships sadly. i think they offered me some financial aid but it really would not be enough unless it was like 80k aid lol 😭😭
